Bottom Line

Functionality, location, and bold color choices make this budget hotel appealing. It offers mostly simple amenities and few frills in the often tight-spaced 87 rooms. The only real variable is the number of beds. Common areas offer a bit more, both in terms of decor and services, with a quirky lounge and bar serving drinks and light meals. A simple continental breakfast costs extra. As the hotel hosts many business travelers, three meeting rooms are also available. With a major transport station (Perrache train and bus station) almost immediately next door, many of Lyon's sights can be reached by foot within 20 minutes. For those who want to be even closer, consider the hotel's second branch,[ Campanile Lyon Centre - Berges Du Rhone]().

Scene

Some unexpected pizzazz and bold color choices

The hotel makes a significant effort at pizzazz in the boldly decorated lobby and lounge. Purple sofas wrap around woodblock coffee tables with vintage-style armchairs to form inviting conversation spaces. Track lighting and Christmas lights add interest, as do the quirky knickknacks hanging here and there, and a foosball table. Socializing is encouraged among the mostly couples and business travelers that check in at the bar, which serves wines, spirits, and beers, as well as a small menu of salads, sandwiches, and other light dishes. The standard continental breakfast buffet is also served here each morning.

Rooms

Small rooms with standard amenities and bold color choices

The 87 rooms at the Campanile Lyon Centre- Gare Perrache are not intended to wow, but they do provide the basics. The beds (queen-size and/or twin-size)  take up the vast majority of the space and a few additional amenities include a flat-screen TVs with cable channels, coffee and tea kettles, blackout curtains, desks, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. A small effort at design adds a hint of color in the pillows and lime green closet system. Bathrooms also keep to the basics, with showers, hairdryers, and free toiletries. The top perk is actually just outside the windows, with views of green and classical style Place Carnot, directly opposite the hotel.
