  • Amenities are basic and limited

Bottom Line

The Sea Bay is a basic, budget choice for Ocean City. A flat, lackluster feel pervades the lobby and guest rooms. Though rooms have convenient kitchenettes and balconies, they have very sparse decor and a somewhat dingy look overall. The Sea Bay stands along a major highway, which guests must cross in order to get to the beach. The hotel is located a short drive away from the convention center, the boardwalk, and the heart of Ocean City's action. Limited features include two outdoor pools and free Wi-Fi. The Sleep Inn & Suites is a newer, more pleasant option at a comparable price.

Scene

A clean but no-frills place to sleep

The Sea Bay Hotel consists of two cookie-cutter, ho-hum buildings by the bay. The sparse lobby is sunny, bright, and well-maintained, but it is decorated with run-of-the-mill decor and carpeted in a drab brown. There are potted plants and trees scattered throughout and bright flowers bloom outside in the summer. With no bars, there’s usually no party crowd to be seen. Sea Bay is more of a place to sleep (and possibly swim and eat) than to hang out. Guests attending events at the convention center may also find its location convenient.

Location

A bayside hotel right by the convention center and the beach

Located along the main, six-lane highway that runs through the heart of Ocean City, Sea Bay overlooks the Wright Bay and is surrounded by condos and other hotels. Besides a steak and seafood restaurant next door, there is little within walking distance. The boardwalk is less than a 10-minute drive from the Sea Bay.The location is ideal for budget business travelers who need to be close to the convention center, which is a two-minute drive away. The beach is right across the street, so it’s convenient for beach-goers, too.

Rooms

Drab, small rooms have kitchenettes and private balconies

Rooms are run-of-the-mill and very sparse. Bare, artless walls create a dreary, dingy feel, despite rooms being mostly clean. Some rooms still have dated, tube-style TVs. Every room includes a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker, as well as a private balcony with plastic furniture. Bathrooms are on the small side. Some rooms have sofa beds available. If you want a bay view room, be sure to specify, since the majority of rooms overlook the parking lot or the busy street below.

Features

Outdoor pools and free Wi-Fi, but not much else

The Sea Bay has two outdoor pools and a cafe that serves breakfast and lunch. The pools are clean but utilitarian, and surrounded by ugly buildings and plastic lounge chairs. Compared to nearby competitors, the amenities are lackluster. There’s a meeting room, laundry facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Street parking gets crowded during weekends and the summertime.
