Bottom Line

The 598-room Marmorata Village is a huge mid-range property overlooking the sea, and a ten-minute drive from the scenic Santa Teresa seaport. This family-friendly hotel has three swimming pools, a small beach with loungers and umbrellas, and lots of entertainment for both kids and adults provided by the animation team. For dining, three on-site restaurants offer buffet meals (including a free breakfast) and there's a poolside bar and lounge. Dated albeit homey rooms are spacious and come with patios or balconies -- many with views of the sea -- but they don't have air-conditioning or reliable free Wi-Fi. The property is sprawling and though a train is available to take guests around, it could pose a problem for some. The beach and restaurants can get crowded, so couples may prefer the more romantic and modern Hotel La Coluccia.

Marmorata Village

Scene

Activity-centered seaside hotel popular with families

The Marmorata Village is a sprawling property with trains to shuttle guests between the restaurants, sports and leisure facilities, and two buildings of rooms. The hotel's Sardinian style is consistent throughout the property, featuring hues of white, brown, and vibrant blue, but overall the furnishings are dated and in need of an update. It has a certain homey charm, though, from one restaurant's terrace overlooking the sea to another's murals and stone archways. Grounds are well-manicured -- if a bit patchy in places -- and the sandy stretch of beach is beautiful. Note that boars roam the property at night. The animation team and array of land and water sports keep guests busy, and make the property best suited to families.

Location

On a hilltop in northern Sardinia overlooking the water

Marmorata Village is located on a hillside overlooking La Marmorata beach, one of the northernmost beaches of the Italian island of Sardinia. There are free shuttles to several other nearby beaches that offer snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and dolphin-spotting. Residence la Marmorata, a resort with shops and a restaurant on-site, is a 14-minute walk away. Nearby attractions include Spiaggia La Marmorata (11-minute walk) and Capo Testa, known for its beach and windblown rock formations (20-minute drive). Its scenic location with lush countrysides and access to beautiful beaches is its biggest draw. There is also free parking. The Olbia airport is 75 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Dated rooms with patios or balconies, many with sea views

Rooms at Marmorata Village are decorated in classic Sardinian style -- simple and clean with a white, blue, and brown color palette. The overall look is dated but chandeliers, patterned quilts, vases with fake flowers, and colorful artwork add homey touches. There are different types of rooms to choose from but all come with furnished balconies or patios and most have sea views; for the best views, stay at La Maddalena, one of the two structures housing rooms.

Bathrooms have small showers, bidets, ample free toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers. Standard room amenities include mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, desks, and armoires. Rooms are spacious, but note that they lack air-conditioning.

Features

Tons of family-friendly features include swimming pools, beach, and entertainment

The first thing travelers might notice at Marmorata Village is the quirky train that loops around the property to drop guests off at various locations since the property is so vast. The hotel also offers a shuttle into the nearest town and nearby beaches -- not that guests ever have to leave the property to find things to do. The variety of sporting activities and other entertainment such as live nightly performances at the on-site theater also set the hotel apart. An animation team encourages guests to get involved in activities ranging from tennis and golf to water sports and fitness classes.

There are three large swimming pools, including one for kids, that are surrounded by loungers. The pleasant stretch of sandy beach is a popular, and sometimes crowded, spot lined with lounge chairs and orange-and-white striped umbrellas. A kids' club with a large playground is also on-site. Free Wi-Fi is available, but only in the reception area.

There are three restaurants on the property serving the same buffet-style meals, so guests don’t have to walk too far to find dining. All rates include a free buffet breakfast, plus all-inclusive packages can be purchased. A pool and beach bar with snacks are also available. Food receives mixed reviews, however.
