Hotel Terme Merano

Hotel Terme Merano is more modern than other competing venues in the area. With high ceilings and sleek finishes, the common area in this upscale resort is both warm and contemporary, a feat that can be hard to achieve. Upon entering, the front desk is nothing special, but the lobby opens up and is full of natural light with glass walls and ceilings and large potted trees, bringing the beauty of the outdoor areas inside. The bar and lounge area has high ceilings with bright red walls and red plush suede furnishings. The light fixtures are primarily made out of antlers, a nod to the mountainous locale -- though the traditional alpine style common to so many of the region's properties is absent. Being a spa and wellness resort, the overall atmosphere is relaxed and relatively quiet, perfect for a couple’s getaway or for parties who would like to unwind and enjoy the outdoors.

Merano is a charming town in South Tyrol Province in Northern Italy, bordering Austria. It is located in the Passeier Valley and is surrounded by sprawling hillsides and mountains. The town is best known for its spa resorts, with Hotel Terme Merano, which sits on the Passer River, being a notable spa and wellness center in the heart of the town.

The closest regional airport to Merano is in Bolzano, 30 minutes south by car. The closest international airport would be either Innsbruck Airport in Austria or Verona Airport in Italy, with both being a two-hour car ride away. Stazione di Merano-Maia Bassa, a five-minute drive or 30-minute walk from the hotel, offers train access to the airports though with much longer travel times.

Warm colors like red, orange, and mossy green paint the walls and are found in the furnishings of the 115 rooms and 24 suites. With hardwood floors, large windows, plush seating, and private balconies, rooms are cozy, functional, and modern. The bathrooms are spacious and inviting with bright orange and teal accents and modern fixtures, including heated towel racks. Both Comfort and Superior Rooms come with balconies, and some rooms have nice mountain views. Suites have separate living areas. Amenities include robes and slippers, as well as minibars (though they're only stocked with water). 

The town of Merano is known for its spa getaways and this hotel is no exception. The Terme Merano wellness area has 25 pools in total: There are 15 inside and outside pools year-round, with 10 more outdoor pools open during the summer months. The 5 Elements Spa has a large indoor swimming pool, heated outdoor pool, massage showers, aroma bath, and whirlpool. There are two eating areas -- Olivi Restaurant, which serves breakfast and dinner, and Bistro La Piazza, which serves all meals. And the Zedern Lounge, which can be found in the lobby area, serves after-dinner drinks nightly. Nearby outdoor activities include hiking, mountain biking, and shopping in the city center, as well as skiing during the winter months.
