Bottom Line

The 190-room NYX Tel Aviv is designed for young professionals who like to party just as hard as they work. Named after the goddess of night, this upper-middle-range hotel has sleek, dark, and subtly sultry decor. Rooms are stylish and contemporary, with modern technology and dog-friendly options. An extensive breakfast buffet is served late on the weekends, while rooftop parties, spontaneous events, and a cocktail happy hour make appearances. There are also a small gym, big sauna, and hallways with street art murals, unusual vending machine goods, social media posts, and a retro video game simulator. Meeting rooms are located off the business lounge, baby kits are available for families, and Wi-Fi is free. Travelers looking for something less swanky with a better location should consider The Diaghilev, Live Art Boutique Hotel

NYX Tel Aviv Hotel

Scene

Sexy and sleek hotel designed for cosmopolitan guests who favor art, fun, and design

The NYX Tel Aviv Hotel is small, sleek, and sexy, named after the Greek goddess of night, Nyx. The ultra-contemporary and stylish hotel opened in 2016 and was designed to appeal to a younger, cosmopolitan business guest who is big into nightlife and style, though, like many hotels in the city, there are several Israeli families who stay on the weekends. The dark, modern decor features lots of textures, red and black tones, animal print, wood decor accents, and brushed metallics. Each floor has a polished black jaguar statue with a studded collar, black-and-white feathered wallpaper that wraps the halls, and screens that publicly display social media posts by guests who use the hotel's hashtag. Folks who opt to take the stairs up or down any of the 11 floors are rewarded with mural artworks, though similar art with provocative elements can be found in the dim, maze-like hallways and business lounge. There are even a retro video game simulator and unconventionally stocked vending machines scattered around. From the lobby bar to the rooftop terrace, there's a surprising amount of public and social space here.

Location

Near Rothschild Boulevard, but in a less-than-desirable neighborhood

NYX Tel Aviv is located in the Neve Sha'anan area, near Rothschild Boulevard and some of the best clubs and bars in the city. This area is also one of the less sophisticated in the city, and it's common for beggars and drug dealers to be roaming the streets. The hotel itself is part of a large business building and is located off of a big intersection.

  • Eight-minute walk to Rothschild Boulevard
  • Nine-minute drive or 19-minute walk to Carmel Market
  • Nine-minute drive or 20-minute walk to Sarona Market
  • Nine-minute drive to Jerusalem Beach
  • 10-minute drive to Old Jaffa
  • 10-minute drive to King George Street
  • 11-minute drive to Dizengoff Street
  • 11-minute drive to Rabin Square
  • 14-minute drive to Tel Aviv Port
  • 22-minute drive to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport

Rooms

Stylish and sleek rooms with smart TVs and bathrobes, but no balconies

The NYX has 190 modern and stylish rooms outfitted with upscale toiletries, waffle robes, and big, high-quality beds loaded with down pillows. Contemporary art and patterned wallpaper depicting a Leonardo da Vinci drawing style the walls. Slick, black furniture and leather headboards contrast against the white beds, and shiny silver lamps stand on the floor. Technology is minimal but efficient, consisting of 48-inch smart TVs loaded with a digital film library, digital bathroom scales, mini-fridges, and Nespresso machines. Bathrooms have white tile and glossy black countertops, as well as basic hotel-branded toiletries and vanity kits, magnifying mirrors, and hairdryers. By design, the vanity mirrors are the only mirrors in the rooms.

Superior Rooms are the smallest, though some feel more spacious than others. For slightly more room, plus a seating chair and slippers, upgrade to a Deluxe. Deluxe-style rooms are also the only category that allow dogs, and each Deluxe Pet Friendly comes with a bed, food, and bowl. The Deluxe Kitchenettes are a bit of a misnomer since they house a wet bar area and not a full kitchenette. The sitting areas with futon-style couches add noticeable space to the Studios, while Suites are nearly twice as big as the standard rooms and come with separate bathtubs and enormous walk-in showers. However, while some lower-category rooms have super king beds, the Suites have double beds. Suites also have hanging framed mirrors. There are no rooms with balconies at this hotel.

Features

Rooftop bar, extensive breakfast, and gym

One of the most celebrated features of the NYX is its massive and varied breakfast buffet served in the bar area. Like most hotels in the city, it’s the full spread of an Israeli breakfast (and then some), but without the kosher limitations. Since the hotel knows their guests like to party until the wee hours, breakfast is served late on the weekends. Rooms service is available (until 10 p.m. during our visit).

The NYX cocktail bar has a daily two-for-one happy hour on drinks. During the good weather of peak season, the hotel’s rooftop terrace is the place to be thanks to live music, DJs, drinks from a small bar, and wicker bucket seats with city views.

There’s also a small gym area with state-of-the-art Technogym cardio machines with screens, a weight bench, and free weights. Expect rubber floors, natural light, and grab-and-go cool towels from a mini-fridge. The hotel’s large sauna is a leftover byproduct from the now-gone spa treatment room.

Another popular feature here is the business lounge. This snazzy space is accessible to guests in Deluxe Kitchenettes and higher. It offers a more Bohemian take on contemporary decor such as risque art and zebra-print rugs, plus a fresh snack buffet, newspapers and magazines, and an alcohol-free drink station. This is also where the hotel’s meeting rooms are located. The small, conference-style setup has street views and can be catered.

Events are common at the NYX, such as pop-up fashion and art shows or Friday night DJs in the lobby.

Freebies include Wi-Fi and bottled water from reception. Unlike most hotels in the Fattal family, the NYX is small-dog-friendly for an extra fee. Breakfast is only free for guests who book directly through the website.
