Bottom Line

Regency Country Club is a 72-room boutique apartment-style hotel that provides an excellent (and quieter) alternative to some of the more family-oriented properties in Tenerife. Balinese carved doors and statues found across the common areas add lots of elegance, while guest rooms have similarly styled dark-wood furniture along with large, modern kitchens and furnished balconies. At the center of the hotel is a huge pool surrounded by statues and palm trees, a pavilion with a whirlpool, and a swim-up bar. There's also a French and Mediterranean restaurant, and meal plans are available. Travelers looking to stay closer to town may prefer Marylanza Suites & Spa.

Regency Country Club

Scene

Elegant, family-friendly property with Balinese decor throughout

This Balinese-themed boutique property manages to remain fairly quiet despite being family-friendly. The main building has whitewashed walls topped with terra-cotta East Asian-inspired roofs, similar to what one might see atop a pagoda. The lobby features Balinese statues, intricately carved doors, giant birds-of-paradise floral displays, and crushed-velvet chairs in red and cream. Just off the lobby, there's a reading room with oversize distressed-leather sofas and a giant chessboard. At the heart of the hotel, there's a courtyard with a large T-shaped pool with stone lion fountains, palm trees, and statuary, including a large, reclining Buddha. This Irish-owned property draws some Spanish weekenders along with British, German, and Scandinavian travelers, including plenty of families.

Location

Hillside location in Chayofa, a short drive from Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos

This hotel is located in Chayofa, a quiet hilltop community just inland from Playa de las Americas on the way to Mount Teide (about an hour away). The views are beautiful, but there's really nothing of interest within walking distance, so guests staying here should be prepared to drive, take taxis, or rely on the hotel's shuttle, which operates seven times per day. It's just uphill from Siam Mall and Siam Park, both about an eight-minute drive away. The beaches at Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas take about six minutes to reach by car, and both are popular for shopping, nightlife, and beaches. Los Gigantes is a quieter alternative and takes about half an hour to reach by car. Tenerife Airport is a 15-minute drive away.

Rooms

Balinese-style furniture with a contemporary spin, with kitchens and balconies

Regency Country Club offers a range of air-conditioned One-, Two-, Three-Bedroom Apartments. There's also one Four-Bedroom unit that occupies three floors, with a whirlpool hot tub, a sauna, and a barbecue area. Some of the Two-Bedrooms are spread out across two stories, with bedrooms and one bathroom downstairs, and living rooms and kitchens upstairs; these particular units face the pool and offer direct access from their lower-level terraces. Master bedrooms have double four-poster beds, while all subsequent bedrooms come with two twin beds each. Baby cots are available on request.

All apartments have furnished balconies and come equipped with dark-wood Balinese-style furniture, sofa beds, and flat-screen TVs, though using in-room safes costs extra. Kitchens come with cooktops, coffeemakers, kettles, stainless steel fridges with freezers, toasters, ovens, and microwaves. Note that while apartments are cleaned daily, guests are responsible for keeping kitchens tidy.

Each unit has its own bathroom (though not all are en-suite) with basic toiletries, hairdryers, makeup mirrors, and either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Some of the One-Bedrooms add whirlpool hot tubs.

Outdoor pool, activities galore, and kids' club, plus a gym and free shuttle

Amenities at Regency Country Club are aimed at families and couples alike, with lots of activities for all ages. Adult offerings include Pilates, petanque, wine tasting, sangria making, and Flamenco performances. There's also a mini-club for kids ages four and up (younger children are also allowed with parental supervision), with a wood playground that has swings and play equipment, plus activities such as face painting. Other facilities include a fitness center with weights and cardio machines, but the equipment is older and the gym is located in a stuffy basement that's accessible through a parking garage. There's no spa, but massages are available in guest rooms or in an outdoor massage pavilion with advanced notice.

At the heart of the property is a sprawling pool, which has a pool bar, a swim-up bar, and a whirlpool hot tub under a shaded pavilion; there's also a smaller splash pool for little ones. Off to one side is a lovely mini-golf course with interspersed gardens and fountains, and there's a separate area with a life-size chessboard closer to the apartments. A shower area with saunas is next to the pool for guests to use after checking out of rooms if they have time to kill before flights home. There's also a locker room right by the lobby where guests can store their luggage.

Breakfast-only and half-board (either lunch or dinner) packages are available.
