Overview

Pros
  • Great location, blocks from shopping on Yonge Street

  • Sleek decor, with hardwood floors and red accents

  • Comfortable beds

  • Charming York Street Cafe

  • Pub with big projector screen and multiple TVs

  • Eco-friendly practices

Cons
  • Rooms are on the small side

  • Some rooms have tube TVs

Bottom Line

This eco-friendly, mid-range hotel sits in the heart of Downtown Toronto, blocks from shops, restaurants and popular sites. The rooms are small but clean, with light wood floors, minimalist contemporary decor, and ultra-comfy beds -- but rooms at the nearby Hotel Victoria are perhaps a tad more stylish, so it's worth comparing rates.

Location

Across the street from Union Station, and blocks from many popular sites

Located in Toronto's Financial District, and blocks away from the Distillery District and Entertainment District, The Strathcona Hotel sits near popular sites such as the CN Tower, one of the world's tallest buildings, with an observation deck overlooking the city, and Rogers Centre.Once an industrial park, Toronto's Entertainment District is now a bustling home to nightclubs, theaters, such as Roy Thomson Hall where the Toronto Symphony Orchestra performs, and Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays' stadium. The nearby Financial District is composed of skyscrapers housing law firms, corporate headquarters, and offices, and the Distillery District is one of Toronto's historic gems. The district got it's name from the Gooderham and Worts Distillery, formerly in operation in the area as the largest distillery in the world. Claiming the largest sample of Victorian-era architecture in North America, the Distillery District recently came out of a redevelopment which included the institution of numerous shops, restaurants, and art galleries.- 25-minute drive to Pearson International Airport
