Bottom Line

Centrally located in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 and within walking distance of most top sites -- Ben Thanh Market is just seven minutes away -- this three-pearl hotel offers clean and elegant rooms accompanied by a solid choice of amenities. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast (included in rates), lunch, and dinner, and there's a lovely rooftop pool with a sundeck. The fitness room is tiny and not well equipped, but guests have access to a sauna and steam room, as well as a spa and beauty salon. The 56 guest rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea/coffee facilities, and free Wi-Fi -- but some lack windows. For larger and more charming rooms, check out Hotel Continental, housed in a 19th century colonial building.

Oyster Hotel Review

Three-pearl hotel with pleasant interiors

Stepping into the lobby of the Alagon Saigon Hotel & Spa from the busy street outside, guests are met with a pleasant space clad in white. White tile floors and marble effect white walls are paired with white leather couches for a clean and calming effect. Though some of the details verge on gaudy, like the crystal chandeliers, it's an inviting space. Past the lobby, the hotel's restaurant features white furniture with gold embellishments and navy velvet upholstery on chairs. Further in, these are traded for wooden tables and chairs with lime green accents. Overall, it's a pleasant property that offers a solid set of mid-range features, attracting both tourists and business travelers drawn by the convenient central location. The property is part of a local hotel group, and guests should note that some of the facilities are shared.

Central location close to Ben Thanh Market and many other top sites

The hotel is centrally located in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1. It's just a seven-minute walk to the bustling Ben Thanh Market, which is full of food stalls as well as sellers touting souvenirs, art, clothes, textiles, and hand-crafted goods. There are lots of dining options and bars in the area, as well as shops and shopping malls. Most of the city's top sites are within walking distance, including the Cu Chi Tunnels (five-minute walk), the Independence Palace (13-minute walk), the Notre-Dame Cathedral (17-minute walk), War Remnants Museum (16-minute walk), and the Saigon Central Post Office (17-minute walk). Several bus lines stop about a two-minute walk from the property. The main train station is about a 15-minute drive away. Tan Son Nhat International Airport is about a 27-minute drive from the hotel.

Pleasant, clean rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and tea/coffee facilities -- but some lack windows

Rooms are clean and feature pleasant decor, with white furniture, white walls, and either wooden or cream tile floors. The white furnishings are adorned with subtle gold embellishments for an elegant effect, which pairs well with the damask accent pillows and bed runners. Tufted blue headboards match the chair upholstery. Guests should note that some of the rooms are small and lack windows. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, minibars, electronic safes, free bottled water, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are sleek and pleasant, covered in cream tiling and equipped with either walk-in rainfall showers or shower/tub combos with rainfall showerheads. Wall-mounted hairdryers, bathrobes, and toiletries are supplied.

Rooftop pool with sundeck, spa and beauty salon services, small fitness room, and on-site restaurant

Guests have access to a small but pleasant rooftop pool and sundeck with loungers, a lovely space that offers views over the city. There are spa and beauty salon facilities as well, offering a small menu of treatments and services. The fitness room is tiny and offers just four cardio machines and some weights. Guests also have access to a sauna and steam room.

On-site dining is available at the hotel's ground floor restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and offers both an a la carte menu as well as set menus. Breakfast is free and includes hot and cold items like noodles, sausages, fruits, and an egg station. Guests are given vouchers for free high tea and cakes in the afternoon.

Other amenities include free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and an airport transfer service (free for longer bookings). The on-site tour desk can assist with booking tours and excursions.
