Summer movie screenings in a famous Los Angeles Cemetery

Enjoy free summer movie screenings with Hollywood's long-departed rich and famous at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.

On weekend evenings at dusk every summer, thousands of people join together to watch movies with dead people — literally — as part of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery movie series. Bring a picnic, a blanket and pillow, and sit amongst the famous people entombed there, while you watch classic movies under the nighttime stars.

Top Los Angeles DJs kick off and end the evening by spinning great music, while people dance atop graves. Sound a bit morbid? It’s not, it’s a great night out, and you’ll be hanging out with locals from every neighborhood of this enormous city, as it pulls people in from hither and yon — Cinespia (the host of these screenings) is famous.

Now in its 10th year, Cinespia is showing Midnight Cowboy (June 26), Easy Rider (July 3rd), Arsenic and Old Lace (July 10), and more. Check out the full calendar here. Alfred Hitchcock screenings are particularly popular, as he is buried here, and people claim they can feel him thrill in the event. The most famous of Hollywood are buried here, in fact, making for an interesting version of a star-studded Hollywood screening. Most of the crew members, writers, directors and actors are buried underneath where you sit. It’s super cool, and a little creepy, but it’s a real LA experience.

Location: Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd (at Gower, in Hollywood)Details: Free admission; $5 parking; alcohol permitted
