$150 fee for pets -- higher than at most New York hotels
Bottom Line
Like its sisters in South Beach, the 72-room MAve hotel (opened in 2009) uses slight style -- and a few treats, like H2O bath prodcuts and a nice, free cheese spread at breakfast -- as a means to over-inflate the price of incredibly tiny guest rooms in Murray Hill. A better boutique? Thompson LES, Ace, Smyth... the list goes on.
Just down the block from the Museum of Sex, this Flatiron hotel is only one block away from the small, but lovely, Madison Square Park. But the best part about the location is that you're essentially in the center of the city, within easy reach (by subway) of the midtown business district (Midtown East), the tourist attractions of Times Square and Midtown West, and the downtown nightlife and shopping in SoHo, Chelsea, and the East Village.
About two to three blocks from R, W and the 6 subway lines
30-minute subway ride to the ferry terminal to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
20-minute subway (or bus) ride to Rockefeller Center
25-minute subway ride to the American Museum of Natural History
30-minute subway (or bus) ride to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the "Met") and 20-minute subway (or bus) ride to the Museum of Modern Art (the "MoMA")
Rooms
New (as of 2009) and stylish -- but incredibly small
Boulevard King Room
At, roughly, 100 square feet, the standard guest room -- called an "Urban Full" -- has just barely enough room for its full-size bed; it's one of the smallest guest rooms in the city
Madison King and Queen Rooms, Madison Doubles (with two full-size beds) and Boulevard Kings all offer a bit more space -- but not much
