Bottom Line

The 198-room Ramada Plaza Waikiki is a mid-range chain located across the street from the Hilton Hawaiian Village and near the Hawaii Convention Center. Rooms are basic in decor and furniture could use an update, but there are flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers in all rooms and some have big balconies. Suites have kitchenettes with microwaves and stovetop ranges. There is an outdoor pool and sundeck, but the beach is a 10-minute walk away. A Chinese/breakfast buffet restaurant is connected to the hotel. The stylish Coconut Waikiki Hotel may be a better option for guests looking for a trendier hotel.

Basic chain hotel

The Ramada Plaza Waikiki has a breezy island theme. The lobby has bamboo furniture covered in Hawaiian flower-patterned fabric and a grand light made up of coppery feathers. The helpful staff creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, but public spaces in this hotel are few and far between. There is a small outdoor pool surrounded by palm trees and the attached Wokkiki Buffet has a big yellow sun painted on the walls.

On busy Ala Moana Boulevard near Kahanamoku Beach, Hawaii Convention Center, and Kalakaua Avenue

There are several nearby dining conveniences including Buffalo Wild Wings Bar & Grill, McDonald’s, and Starbucks. It’s a 10-minute walk from Kahanamoku Beach. The Ala Moana Shopping Center is a 10-minute walk, and the main stretch of Kalakaua Avenue with plenty of dining and shopping options is an 11-minute walk. The Hawaii Convention Center is also within walking distance, making it an easy commute for business travelers. There’s also a bus stop in front of the hotel making it easy to access other areas of Honolulu.

Uninspiring décor; some rooms with balconies and kitchenettes

Rooms have uninspiring design including beige walls, light wood furnishings, and patterned bedspreads. They are average in size and some have big balconies, but no ocean views. Rooms have coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Microwaves and mini-fridges are available in some rooms, and suites have kitchenettes with stovetop ranges, sinks, silverware, and kitchenware.

Outdoor pool, clean laundry room, and small fitness center

The outdoor pool at the Ramada Plaza Waikiki is surrounded by palm trees and has a sundeck with lounge chairs as well as tables with umbrellas. The hotel has a nice, clean laundry room with detergent for sale as well as a snack vending and ice machine. There’s a small fitness center with limited machines, an ATM in the lobby, and a gift shop. The Wokkiki Buffet is attached to the hotel and serves a Chinese buffet for a fee. Hotel guests benefit from being across from the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort which has a free fireworks show weekly.
