Situated on the second and third floors of a classic late 19th century apartment building, the entrance hall has a small reception area, a living room with a fireplace, Internet corner, breakfast room with terrace, and kitchen for guests' use. The rooms, including the breakfast room and living room, are large and open, with big windows and vaulted ceilings. The attractive breakfast room has a fireplace and a large table, while the living room features a bright red couch, a black-and-white-checkered floor, a large wooden table that guests can sit around, and a smaller seating area with a glass table. The owner’s collection of vintage items -- furniture and entertainment-related artifacts from the 1950s and '60s, such as a jukebox, radio, foosball table, pinball machine, and old telephones -- are strategically placed throughout the breakfast area and living room. A beautiful rooftop patio with potted plants and cactuses offers sweeping views of the city and guests here are almost exclusively couples on holiday. 

Il Boom is located on a quiet residential street in Rome’s historic Trastevere area. Surrounded by trees and other apartment buildings, it is a five-minute walk to the heart of Trastevere, with its narrow cobblestone streets, restaurants, bars, ice-cream parlors, and artisan shops. There are bus stops within a five-minute walk of the hotel. The Colosseum is 22 minutes away by bus (No. 75) and nearly every major attraction in Rome -- the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori, the Campidoglio, the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Vatican City, and the Spanish Steps -- is less than 30 minutes away by bus, or for ambitious guests, under 40 minutes walking (with plenty to see along the way). Termini Station is about 30 minutes away on bus No. 75, and Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is 50 minutes away on public transportation, or 30 minutes by car.

Il Boom’s three rooms are spacious and airy with lovely vaulted and framed ceilings, herringbone parquet floors, desks, and large wardrobes. Rooms are named after Italian stars Monica Vitti, Anna Magnani, or Sophia Loren, and the rooms' white walls and built-in bookshelves are lined with art and books inspired by them. Vintage hardwood furniture and accents throughout are gorgeous, particularly the art nouveau and mid-century platform-style beds with jewel-toned comforters. All rooms offer lovely views of the city from a large window (or two), and also come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and individually controlled heat and air-conditioning. The Vitti Room is the largest, with a double bed and sofa bed, and a private balcony; its stylish black-and-white bathroom with a modern glass shower is outside the room. The bathroom in the Magnani Room, across the hall from the room, has a large jetted tub and separate glass shower. The Loren Room, with two windows overlooking Villa Sciarra, a beautiful public park, has a 1940s style double wooden bed, and is the only room with an en-suite bathroom with shower.

Il Boom offers an intimate, personalized bed-and-breakfast experience that includes a continental breakfast of coffee, tea, pastries, cereal, meats, cheeses, and yogurt. The property also has a communal kitchen guests, along with a computer and printer. Parking is available on the street, or in a nearby garage for a nightly fee. The owners will help with airport transfers, as well as restaurant and tour recommendations. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property and there are cats on the grounds, though they are not allowed in guest rooms, a fact allergy sufferers should consider. The bed-and-breakfast also has no lock out times.
