The Hilton Garden Inn San Mateo, a short drive to the airport (with free shuttle service) and within a half hour's drive of San Francisco, is primarily built for business travelers. There are multiple meeting rooms and a 24-hour business center outfitted with three computers, fax machine, copy machine, and free printing and Internet. A lobby convenience store has basic snacks for sale, and a coin-operated washer/dryer is nice for those longer business trips. There's a basic restaurant on-site (and limited room service), though better options are within walking distance. Rooms are standard -- basic wood hotel-style furnishings and no-frills bathrooms -- though beds come with adjustable mattresses so guests can choose their level of comfort. Plus, rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, microwaves, and mini-fridges. The towels folded into animal shapes is a nice touch upon arrival, too. A fitness center provides modern cardio and weight equipment for a good workout, and there's an outdoor pool with Jacuzzi -- though both are underwhelming at best.
