Oyster Hotel Review
Artemis Villa and Hotel
Contemporary Balinese villa hotel with spa and large outdoor freeform pool
Opened in 2009 and named for the Greek goddess of hunting, Artemis Villa and Hotel is situated in a quiet setting on tropical grounds with palm trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns, and stone pathways. The lobby and open-air restaurant have a contemporary Balinese look with Greek influences, and feature colors of royal blue in the fabrics, a sharp, contemporary look that carries over to the hotel rooms as well. Whitewashed hardwood, light stonework, and other bright details help keep everything appropriately breezy. The hotel draws couples to its serene setting with outdoor pool and spa. With its lack of kid-friendly activities, the Artemis isn't ideal for families with children, but families do benefit from the large villas and apartments. Still, given the quiet nature of the property, couples and small groups of friends make up the bulk of guests here.
South-central Seminyak location near shopping and dining, a 10-minute walk from the beach
Artemis Villa and Hotel is located in central Seminyak, down a quiet narrow lane at the town's southern end. It's within a two-minute walk of boutiques, restaurants, cafes, bars, and nightclubs. The hotel is a little over a five-minute walk from Jalan Raya Seminyak, the major north-south road running through Seminyak. Seminyak Beach and the Indian Ocean are about a 10-minute walk from the hotel and it's about a 15-minute walk from the famous Ku De Ta restaurant, which offers good sunset views. La Lucciola restaurant, the Seminyak Square shopping complex, and the Pura Petitenget temple are all within a 10-minute drive of the hotel, while Waterbom Bali water park is a 15-minute drive. Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 25 minutes away by car.
Spacious and contemporary rooms with terraces and flat-screen TVs
The 18 rooms and villas at Artemis Villa and Hotel have a contemporary Balinese look, with high ceilings, Balinese art, whitewashed wood furnishings, terraces, and plenty of natural light. Many feature teak and rattan elements and stone or antique wood flooring, plus earthy color schemes brightened up by pops of navy blue or light green in the bedspreads and upholstery. Rooms range from 484 square feet (45 square meters) to 3,918 square feet (364 square meters). All rooms have safes, minibars, and 26- or 32-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and DVD players. All have air-conditioning, but some have it only in the bedrooms and not in the kitchens or living areas.
A few villas have small outdoor private pools shaded by trees, and one has a hot tub set in a garden of flowers. Cottages offer direct access to the hotel's main pool. For those looking for a bit of extra independence, villas and apartments have kitchens, living rooms, and dining areas. Bathrooms are spacious and well-designed, and many are open-air. All come with hairdryers, bathrobes, slippers, rainfall showers, and separate bathtubs.
Large outdoor pool, full-service spa, free breakfast, and restaurant
Artemis Villa and Hotel features a large outdoor freeform pool designed in the shape of Bali, with a striking blue color that contrasts nicely with the surrounding greenery. Next to the pool is a children's pool, a hot tub, and a wooden deck with blue lounge chairs and outdoor showers. The on-site spa offers a wide range of treatments, including massages, body scrubs, facials, flower and cream baths. One of the spa's specialties is "shirodhara," an Ayurvedic therapy that involves pouring heated oil over a recipient's forehead. In-room spa treatments are also available. The hotel has no fitness center, but there are health clubs open to the public in Seminyak.
The Artemis serves a free breakfast buffet with hot and cold items, including Western, Indonesian, and Japanese items. Lunch and dinner is also available, with an emphasis on Indonesian, Italian, and Japanese cuisine. The poolside open-air restaurant also hosts occasional barbecues and room service is available. The bar serves a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and has a billiard table. The hotel's 24-hour library has reading materials, DVD players, and computers for guest use. Other features include free parking, free airport drop-off service, car and driver rentals, and bicycle/motorcycle/surfboard rentals. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
