  • Double-glazed windows in all rooms for a peaceful sleep, plus large balconies in most
  • Free Wi-Fi and free calls to European landlines

  • Showing some wear and tear
  • No parking, pool, fitness center, or spa
  • Some bathrooms are tight, and some rooms face an unattractive courtyard

Bottom Line

With a typical Barcelona-style facade, stunning modern interior design, chic rooms, and a hard-to-beat location, this 88-room hotel could be one of Barcelona’s gems -- but the lack of amenities and mediocre on-site restaurant might make some guests feel this hotel is little more than a pretty face. However, the rooms are colorful and trendy, with high-tech amenities, and some have wonderful, large balconies with views of the beautiful architecture across the street.

Oyster Hotel Review

In the heart of upscale Eixample neighborhood, amid Modernist architecture and close to many major attractions

Map of Room Mate Carla

This property is centrally located in the Eixample neighborhood, one of the most upscale areas in central Barcelona. Mallorca is a tree-lined street that comes out onto beautiful Passeig de Gracia, where the most beautiful and relevant Modernist buildings are.

Eixample is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Barcelona and certainly the most affluent in the downtown area, with some of the most stunning architecture you’ll find in the city center. It is characterized by its unique grid system, tree-lines streets, and Modernist architecture. It is also where many of the major sights are, such as La Pedrera, Casa Batllo, and even the jaw-dropping Sagrada Familia cathedral.

Passeig de Gracia is the main thoroughfare here, with 19th century architecture, upscale boutiques, and wonderful restaurants. The side streets are equally splendid, but somewhat quieter. The area oozes history and elegance -- but you might find the long lines in front of the tourist attractions a bit annoying, and prices are definitely higher than in the rest of the city.

  • 25-minute drive to El Prat International Airport
  • 5- to 10-minute walk to La Pedrera and Casa Batllo, wonderful examples of unique Modernist architecture
  • 15-minute walk to the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter)
  • 15-minute walk to Sagrada Familia cathedral
  • 20-minute walk to La Rambla
  • 20-minute walk to Placa Catalunya, the heart of the city
  • 25-minute walk to Ciutadella park
  • 5-minute subway ride plus a steep 15-minute uphill walk to Guell park, designed by acclaimed Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi
  • 15-minute subway ride to the Picasso Museum
  • 15-minute subway ride to La Barceloneta Beach
  • 15-minute subway ride to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA)
