Bottom Line

Less than a mile from Appalachian State University, the Baymont Inn & Suites is a budget chain hotel with 96 spacious, generic rooms with microwaves and mini-fridges. A free breakfast buffet with make-your-own waffles is served near a fireplace, and there’s a small fitness center, as well as an indoor pool and hot tub. There’s no restaurant or bar, and some guests complain of inadequate housekeeping. The hotel offers a fair rate for the accommodations, though it'd be worth comparing rates with the nearby Quality Inn & Suites, which offers clean rooms and a free buffet breakfast.

Holiday Inn Boone – University Area

Scene

Budget chain hotel with rustic lobby and breakfast area

The lobby at the Baymont Inn & Suites has a rustic aesthetic, with stone floors, floral upholstered rocking chairs, and a wooden statue of bears climbing a tree near the long front desk. There's a seating area filled with wooden tables with natural edges and brown leather couches with decorative cushions depicting bears and deer on them. The wooden sideboards hold knick-knacks and a flat-screen TV, and there’s a free coffee station. The breakfast buffet is served in an adjacent area with a fireplace, tables, and fabric-covered dining chairs. Guests can make their own toast, bagels, and flavored waffles, and the breakfast area can get busy. The indoor pool area has large windows that look out on snow-covered pine trees in winter, and the hot tub is especially popular with active guests after a day of skiing.
