Bottom Line
Quite possibly the most affordable property in Boulder, the Twin Lakes Inn is a budget hotel that looks a bit like a youth hostel and is geared toward extended-stay guests. Rooms -- though simple and a little dated -- all have private bathrooms and there's a communal kitchen. As it's situated in a residential area away from the popular Pearl Street and the University of Colorado, a car is probably necessary to get around, although there are bus stops nearby.

Budget hotel with youth hostel ambience including communal kitchen and laundry
Housed in what from the outside looks like an old, two-story apartment complex, the Twin Lakes Inn is a youth hostel-style property with several home-like facilities for long-term guests. The lobby is a simple space with a front desk, a few small tables and chairs, a small room with a vending and an ice machine, and bookshelves stocked with a take-one, leave-one book exchange. The hallways are bare but clean and the breakfast room is a DIY operation with containers of cereal, a toaster, a coffeemaker, and a glass box of pastries. There's a large communal kitchen with two stoves and ovens, dishwasher, lots of cupboard space, a full-sized refrigerator, and a large dining table. Outside, there's a small patio and gazebo as well as a barbecue for guest use and covered hot tub.

There's a bus stop a two-minute walk from the hotel as well as a recreation path via which downtown Boulder can be reached by bicycle in about 20 minutes. The nearest grocery story is a four-minute drive or 20-minute walk away.
Rooms
Clean and spacious rooms with old carpet and curtains and tube-style TVs

Past guests have complained about noise issues between units. Rooms can be rented by the week or month at a discounted rate.
