Bottom Line

The 125-room Alexander Thomson Hotel is a mid-range property with original Victorian features located a two-minute walk from Glasgow Central Station. Spacious, simple rooms have large windows, quality wooden furniture, and ample storage space for luggage along with flat-screen TVs and electric kettles. All bookings include a free buffet breakfast served in an elegant breakfast room and there is also a cozy on-site bar. All floors are accessible via elevator (not a given in historic buildings in Glasgow). This hotel is a bargain for the quality and central Glasgow location, but guests looking for a little more style may want to consider the Holiday Inn Glasgow City Theatreland, which has comparable rates.

Alexander Thomson Hotel

Scene

A mid-range Victorian style hotel, popular among corporate travelers and tourists alike

From its red-brick exterior, this historic hotel has plenty of reasons to draw guests of all stripes, from tourists to business travelers. The Alexander Thomson Hotel's lobby is smartly styled, with a decorative inlaid wooden reception counter, high ceilings, and gold-framed artwork. The on-site Alexander Bar is open until late, with an original varnished wood accent wall, brown antique leather couches and chairs, and large windows. The Alexander Breakfast Room is grand, with opulent ceiling moldings, plaid carpets and matching plaid upholstered high-back chairs (this is Scotland, after all). Arched doorways, gold chandeliers, and bronze satin curtains complete the picture.
