Hotel Rural Can Pujolet

Set amid olive and fruit trees in a rugged, secluded area in northern Ibiza, Can Pujolet offers a quiet respite from the island’s famous booming towns. It is small, intimate, and serene, with only 10 rooms and few on-site amenities. It is housed in a traditional payés (peasant) home dating back to the mid-18th century, and decorated in a rustic style with great attention to detail. Thick stone walls painted white, exposed wooden beams, terracotta floors, and a deep red palette make for charming rooms and public spaces, and clay statuettes and artifacts, and traditional sturdy furniture exude a strong local feel that is simple but also neat and refined.

Although the pool and two-bedroom apartment make it a good pick for families, guests here are mostly couples looking to spend some relaxing days away from it all.

Can Pujolet is located on a bumpy path off the narrow road that links Santa Agnes and Sant Mateu towns. It is set amid a thick Mediterranean forest about half a mile from the stunning cliffs in Cala d’en Sardina, where guests can watch some of the most beautiful sunsets on Ibiza. There is nothing within walking distance aside from the coast, and the nearest beach is a 10-minute drive from the hotel -- but that is exactly what draws many guests to Can Pujolet. Also, note that some guests have found it hard to locate, as there is only a small sign that is easy to miss. Ibiza Town and the airport are both a 35-minute drive from the hotel, and party-oriented areas -- such as Sant Antoni de Portmany and Playa d’en Bossa -- can be reached in just over half an hour by car as well.

The hotel has only 10 rooms, all individually decorated in a charming rustic style with lots of wood accents and Kilim-style rugs in red hues. Most units have small windows that keep the heat at bay, as well as larger doors that open onto furnished terraces or patios. There are three main room types: Standard, Medium, and Large. Additionally, there is a bungalow and a two-bedroom apartment for families or groups. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars stocked with water and sodas, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and heated towel racks.

The hotel is overall light on amenities, but it does offer most of the basics. The restaurant has a handful of tables, and serves tasty Mediterranean and regional cuisine made with fresh produce from the hotel’s own garden. It is open for all three meals, and a healthy free breakfast is offered every morning by the pool. The pool itself is a large rectangle with saltwater, serene mountain views, and padded loungers. There are a couple of cabanas as well, and a small whirlpool in a shaded area next to the pool. Wi-Fi and outdoor parking are offered free of charge.
