Bottom Line

The upscale Hotel Corte Valier is all about pampering. The hotel is right on the shores of Lake Garda, and the beautiful views of the water and the fully equipped spa are the property's two biggest highlights. The Corte Valier is also within walking distance to restaurants and sights in the historic town of Lazise. Other amenities like a generous buffet breakfast and huge pools draw travelers seeking a relaxing getaway. There is also plenty of meeting space to accommodate business conferences. Rooms are spacious and clean-lined, and most get gorgeous views of the lake.

Hotel Corte Valier

Scene

A modern glass and metal design perched above Lake Garda

The Hotel Corte Valier is a relatively new hotel with a simple, modern design. From the outside, the structure -- with its rounded metal roofs and glass windows -- looks almost like an observatory. Inside, wooden floors, contemporary furnishings, and neutral colors make the space look more like a business hotel than a vacation spot at times, but several features add character. The Corte Valier was built wide instead of tall, and most rooms overlook the landscaped garden outside and one of the hotel's two huge pools, and the lake.

A wooden deck -- complete with an outdoor bar -- wraps around the perimeter of the outdoor pool, and has plenty of lounge chairs. Lake Garda is located just beyond the garden.

The Corte Valier's views and spa attract an upper middle-class crowd seeking a place with a good view to unwind. Business clients also go for the large meeting spaces equipped with sound systems, projection screens, and computer monitors.

Location

On a quiet, peaceful stretch of water near Lazise’s center

The hotel is located on the main road that runs along Lake Garda, a popular vacation spot and Italy's largest lake. The Corte Valier is surrounded mostly by other hotels, but Lazise’s town center can be reached in a few minutes on foot, via Lake Garda's scenic promenade. There are plenty of restaurants in town, and Lazise, which dates back to medieval times, still has historic sights like the city wall, a centuries-old castle, and beautiful churches. The hotel is a 15- to 20-minute drive to major highways, and is easy to find. The Lake Garda area offers biking and walking expeditions and the Gardaland amusement park is also about a 15-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Large, tranquil rooms with terraces, but no coffeemakers or Wi-Fi

The rooms at the Hotel Corte Valier are spacious and bright with great views. The simple furniture and wooden floors give the space a sense of zen, as do the neutral color palette and soft lighting. All rooms encourage lounging as they offer sofas, and outdoor balconies. Bathrooms are large, and stone tiles add a decorative accent. While not all rooms come with bathtubs -- those require upgrades to full suites -- the showers are large with tall showerheads. One downside, however, is the lack of coffeemakers and Wi-Fi in rooms.

A standard Comfort Room is a better value than a Junior Suite, as there is little difference between the two besides the latter having a bigger entranceway and a canopy over the bed.

Features

An extensive spa, modern meeting rooms, a restaurant, and two bars

Access to the Laguna Spa is included in the room rate, giving guests the options of experiencing a Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, Mediterranean bath, or tanning among other services. The spa is a beautiful, softly lit facility, and it offers massage and body treatments for an additional fee. The fitness center is small, but sufficient with several machines and a set of free weights.

For business travelers, the Hotel Corte Valier has meeting rooms, both large (100 seats approximately) and small (10 to 15 seats) that come with a sound system, projection screens, and computer monitors.

A buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. In addition to the Dome Restaurant, the hotel has two bars: the Hall Bar with large leather seats, near the reception area, and the Pool Bar outside. The terrace at the Dome restaurant is a great place to get a bird's eye view of the water and garden.
