Karden House Hotel

Occupying a quaint Victorian house, this bed-and-breakfast offers a homey stay. Interiors are a bit dated -- think dizzying floral patterns in the lounge, printed bedspreads, and traditional wooden furniture, some of which shows wear. Though decor won't win awards and could use a revamp, the spaces are cozy; there's a fireplace to linger around in the lounge, while the breakfast room is pleasantly furnished with a collection of blonde wood tables and red upholstered chairs that add a pop of cheery color. Overall, it's a small and simple place with a friendly atmosphere, and though it's a bit aged and offers limited amenities, it maintains good reviews among guests, many of whom are repeat visitors. Note that there are no elevators, which might be a problem for those with mobility issues.

The hotel is centrally located in Llandudno, a seaside resort town in northern Wales. It's a four-minute walk to the beach and the lovely promenade that stretches along the shore. There are plenty of dining options, shops, and bars nearby, and the town is easily walkable. The Great Orme Country Park, a great spot for hiking, is about a six-minute drive away or around 20 minutes via public transportation. Once at the park, visitors can take a cable car up to the summit that offers scenic views of the sea and Snowdonia National Park. Other area attractions include the Conwy Suspension Bridge (a 12-minute drive away of around a half-hour by public transportation) and the Llandudno Museum (eight-minute walk). The train station is just a two-minute walk from the hotel. Both the Liverpool airport and Manchester's airport are about an hour and 20 minutes away by car or close to three hours by train. London can be reached in three-and-a-half hours by train.

Much like the hotel's public spaces, guest rooms feature an old-fashioned type of decor. Colorful patterns abound, from the dotted burgundy carpets to floral curtains to patchwork-style bedspreads in a palette of green, crimson, and beige. The wooden furnishings are dated as well, and include desks and wardrobes, while brown tub chairs provide seating. Though they show their age, the spaces are clean.

Amenities are a bit limited, but include flat-screen TVs, electric kettles with free tea and coffee, electronic safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are small and equipped with shower cabins that might be a bit of a tight squeeze for some. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features are limited at this small hotel, but breakfast is included in rates and served in a homey dining room. Packed lunches are also available upon request. There's a small bar in the breakfast room and guests can enjoy drinks in the dining space or in the cozy lounge room, which has a fireplace and a TV. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
