Diplomatic Hotel

With its name perhaps conjuring formal images, the hotel has a lot on which to deliver, and it largely does. This is a polished city property that makes for a solid urban home base in Mendoza. From the outside, this is a towering glass behemoth, while inside, a huge crystal chandelier hangs over gleaming marble floors. Giant columns distinguish the lobby area, and several seating groups with black-and-white chairs provide places where guests can gather and hang out. A sweeping stairway leads up to the mezzanine, which provides additional seating areas. This hotel is popular with business travelers, though it also draws families and couples looking to take advantage of its prime location in the city center. 

The Diplomatic Hotel is situated in the most exclusive and central part of the city, and is surrounded by many restaurants, wine bars, and shops. Attractions that can be reached in less than 10 minutes on foot include the Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno, Teatro Independencia, and Plaza Independencia, which is the site of a weekend artisans market. Parque General San Martin takes around 15 to 20 minutes to reach on foot. For business travelers, the hotel is close to the city's financial center. Plan on about 20 minutes to reach Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport by car, or about an hour by public transportation. 

Rooms and suites are spacious and relatively modern, with wood floors, dark wood furniture, and neutral color schemes accented by red. Photographs of Argentine landmarks hang on the walls. They certainly have a corporate hotel vibe, without much personality, and desks are paired with ergonomic chairs for those who need to get some work done while staying here. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Modern bathrooms are tiled in marble and feature separate tubs and showers, bidets, toiletries, magnifying mirrors, and hairdryers. Views are of the city or the Andes (opt for rooms on the front side and on the higher floors for the best mountain views). Corner Rooms are larger and add sitting areas. Family Rooms can sleep four in two double beds. The posh Presidential Suite features a grand living and dining space and an elegant blend of Old World and modern decor. Views of the city and mountains from this unit are beautiful.  

This hotel offers features suitable for both business and leisure guests. The restaurant serves international fare for all meals, including afternoon tea and a breakfast buffet with a variety of hot and cold selections. Most guests rave about the morning meal, particularly for the inclusion of fresh juice and sparkling wine (though the buffet doesn't come with standard overnight rates). The rectangular outdoor pool is a bit small, but it's suitable for swimming short laps. Cushioned lounge chairs are lined up on one end, and there are dining tables and chairs, too. Potted plants and trees line one side, and the building is on the other side. The bright fitness center has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the pool. Modern equipment includes cardio and weight-training machines, plus free weights. Massages and treatments are available in the spa, and local wines and oils are used in some treatments. A business center has two computers for guests to use, and there are event spaces of various sizes. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and on-site parking is also free.
