Bottom Line

The Clarion Hotel Admiral, housed in a historic former boat warehouse on the Bergen harbor, is a solid option within walking distance of popular sights. Though the restaurant area and many of the rooms are dated and awaiting renovation (slated to be completed by November 2013), the renovated rooms are contemporary and stylish; some have balconies with views of the water. The updated room decor is on par with that at the Clarion Collection Havnekontoret and the Radisson Blu Royal, but prices here tend to be lower -- perhaps due to the less impressive common spaces, fewer features, or location farther from Bryggen. tag:revisit 11/1/2013

Oyster Hotel Review

Clarion Hotel Admiral

Location

On the Bergen harbor opposite of Bryggen

The Clarion Hotel Admiral is located on Bergen Harbor, directly across from the historic Bryggen Hanseatic buildings. Popular sights including Bryggen are within walking distance.

Bergen is one of Norway's most charming and appealing cities, with several well-preserved historic areas, museums, a wide shopping plaza, and the large, manicured Byparken with a pond, gardens, and a gazebo. Tourists flock to Bryggen, a former Hanseatic merchant area with colorful centuries-old wooden buildings (and some newer reconstructions). The Fish Market on the harbor is another popular spot, as is the Floibanen Funicular, which shuttles visitors to the top of a mountain for panoramic views of the city and harbors.

  • 5-minute walk to the Fish Market
  • 9-minute walk to Bryggen
  • 9-minute walk to Byparken
  • 9-minute walk to the Floibanen Funicular
  • 12-minute walk to the Bergen Aquarium
  • 14-minute walk to Bergen Museum
  • 15-minute walk to Bergenhus Fortress
