Maison Dupuy

Scene

A beautiful and quiet property with a lovely central courtyard

Maison Dupuy’s lovely brick buildings with shuttered windows and wraparound wrought iron porches may only date back to 1974, but most guests would never be able to tell. The hotel was designed to blend in with the surrounding classic architecture, and the plan was a complete success. The result has an air of historic French Quarter charm that’s quite inviting. From the moment guests step into the homey, living room-style lobby, the vibe is welcoming and relaxed.

The focal point of the hotel is its lovely internal courtyard. Featuring a photo-worthy fountain, tables arranged under atmospheric strings of lights, and a large outdoor pool, the urban oasis feels worlds away from bustling Bourbon Street just two blocks away. Equally inviting is the colorful and lively Bistreaux restaurant and bar, which offers regular live music and windows for some top-notch people-watching. An eclectic mix of tourists, families, and business travelers use the hotel as a home base for exploring the city. For guests who want a bit of peace and quiet while still being close to the party, Maison Dupuy is an excellent choice.

Many of the neighborhood’s other top attractions, such as Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, and the French Market, as well as famous eateries like Cafe du Monde and Central Deli and Grocery, are within a 12-minute walk. The Central Business District is a 15-minute walk away, across busy Canal Street. Guests can reach the middle of the Garden District in a half-hour by streetcar or 10 minutes by car. Rooms

Relaxing rooms with modern amenities, some featuring lovely balconies and views

The comfortable rooms at Maison Dupuy are clean and bright. Warm wood furnishings sit on textured carpets in muted colors, and the neutral walls are largely bare, with just the occasional piece of art depicting a classic New Orleans scene. Free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, desks, and pillow-top mattresses come standard. The entry-level Traditional King rooms lack mini-fridges or minibars. Closets are equipped with irons, ironing boards, and safes. The bright bathrooms are nice and fairly standard, with marble countertops, shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and New Orleans Collection toiletries. Waffle-weave robes are available upon request.

Upgrading to King Deluxe or Double Double Deluxe rooms adds nice views of either the hotel’s courtyard or the French Quarter. Deluxe King Balcony and Deluxe Double Double Balcony have the same layout, but, as their names imply, they also feature balconies with French Quarter or courtyard views. Junior Suites With Balcony are studio units that add living areas with sofa beds and mini-fridges. For guests who want more space, the One-Bedroom Parlor Suites offer the same amenities but have separate living rooms.

The top-of-the-line suites are the Honeymoon Suites and the VIP Suites. Honeymoon Suites feature large living rooms and huge bathrooms with deep soaking tubs. The VIP Suites add an additional half bathroom, a dining area, and a wet bar. The property also features a detached two-story, two-bedroom Carriage House that’s popular with families, groups, and the occasional celebrity.

A colorful restaurant and bar with live music, plus a lovely interior courtyard with a large outdoor pool

Maison Dupuy offers a range of nice amenities to enhance a stay. Overlooking the corner of Toulouse and Burgundy streets, the casual, inviting Bistreaux restaurant and bar is open for all meals. It features regular happy hour specials, live music, and Sunday jazz brunch. Huge, colorful Toulouse Lautrec-inspired murals line the walls, and large windows allow for some excellent people-watching. The restaurant specializes in locally sourced New Orleans fare, handcrafted cocktails, wine, and local beers. Room service is offered.

Off the cozy, living room-style lobby lounge is a large interior courtyard that’s the centerpiece of the hotel. A picturesque fountain divides the courtyard into two areas. One half features tables sitting under strings of bulbs that create a romantic atmosphere in the evening. The other half of the courtyard is dominated by a beautiful, large outdoor pool surrounded by sun loungers and a handful of cabanas. Guests can get poolside food and drink service from Bistreaux.

Other amenities include a small, 24-hour fitness center with modern cardio machines and free weights, a tiny convenience store, a concierge desk, and 2,600 square feet of meeting space. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Valet parking is offered for a fee (though it’s pricey and it’s the only parking option).
