Hyatt Regency Newport Rating: 3.5 Pearls
This Hyatt may not be the most luxurious hotel in Newport, but it has the most on-site amenities for kids. With an indoor freshwater pool and a seasonal outdoor, saltwater pool, the Hyatt is a family-friendly option on the waterfront. The rooms, while not huge, are comfortable and contemporary, and some have fantastic views. And there are multiple on-site dining options -- with plenty of kid-approved meals -- as well as bike rentals for exploring the surrounding area.
Vanderbilt Grace Rating: 4.5 Pearls
One of the most luxurious hotels in Newport, the Vanderbilt Grace is nonetheless family-friendly. On a quiet street near downtown, this hotel also has indoor and outdoor pools (albeit smaller than those at the Hyatt Regency). Plus, all rooms have kitchenettes for families hoping to eat in, and large, multi-room suites are also available.
Residence Inn Newport/Middletown Rating: 3.0 Pearls
Families and will likely appreciate the comfortable multi-room suites with full kitchenettes (featuring cooktops and dishwashers) at this mid-range hotel, as well as the free daily breakfast and evening socials offered throughout the week. Its location two miles from downtown Newport means visitors can avoid having to pay the pricey downtown Newport rates. Plus, kids will love the sports court and the indoor pool.
Holiday Inn South Kingstown Rating: 3.0 Pearls
There are definitely downsides to this hotel; it's located on a busy street, it's 20 minutes from downtown Newport, and the decor is dated and shows some wear and tear. But for families traveling on a budget, it's a solid option. The hotel has an outdoor pool and an outdoor volleyball court, and all kids under 12 eat at the restaurant for free.
