Bottom Line

This sprawling upper-middle-range chain hotel offers 613 rooms right in the middle of Orlando's action. Clean, contemporary rooms have modern features like flat-screen TVs and iPod docks, some with balconies or patios. The hotel has two outdoor pools plus a kids’ pool, and there’s a modern fitness center with a sauna and steam room alongside on-site dining options. This hotel is a popular business destination, but the location near theme parks and restaurants draws tourists as well, though there is a mandatory resort fee that covers things like Wi-Fi and area shuttles. Travelers looking for more space might want to investigate the Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa, which has condo-style rooms, though they aren't as fresh.

Wyndham Orlando Resort International Drive

Scene

Sprawling resort with lovely grounds and thoroughly contemporary style

This sprawling resort offers stylish interiors and a host of features to satisfy family needs, as well as those of business travelers, leisure tourists, and guests seeking event space. Composed of nine different two-story buildings arranged in a campus setting, the property is set on lovely, landscaped grounds dotted with palm trees, immaculate lawns, and greenery that provides a lush, tropical atmosphere. Paths meander through the grounds, which include fountains and a large lagoon. The spacious lobby features stylish, contemporary furniture that includes white and blush-tone sofas and armchairs paired with striking black-and-white patterned seating as well as chic coffee tables and bookshelves filled with various tomes. The soft and neutral hues of the lobby -- mostly cream and beige colors -- make the space feel light and airy, and provide a good contrast to stylish wooden furnishings and details. There's a large lobby terrace with white patio furniture, twinkle lights, and lots of potted plants and flowers. The resort does have a busy and hectic vibe throughout, from the pools to the restaurant and other common areas, but that's the case at most Orlando-area hotels, especially those in the immediate area.

Location

Convenient location close to restaurants and theme parks

The Wyndham Orlando's location, wedged between busy Universal Boulevard and International Drive, is a good compromise for proximity to some of Orlando's most popular business and theme park hubs. It's about a 10-minute drive to Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and Disney, and a five- to 10-minute drive to the Orange County Convention Center. Shuttle service runs between the resort and Universal, SeaWorld, and Disney World, though renting a car is advised -- the roads are loud, busy, and far from pedestrian-friendly. The new Orlando Eye ferris wheel is just a five-minute walk from the hotel, and there are plenty of chain and local restaurants in the area, plus all of the requisite tourist traps (hello, Ripley's Believe It or Not - Orlando). Orlando International Airport is a 20-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Sharp, contemporary rooms, some with private balconies or patios

Rooms are sharp and modern, with style-conscious decor that includes black-and-white geometric print carpeting that pairs well with wooden headboards, which also feature a geometric design. Beds are topped with crisp, white linens and large pieces of colorful abstract art adorns the gray walls. Neutral hues throughout the rooms are invigorated by pops of color, like red chairs and closet doors. All rooms include flat-screen TVs with cable channels, coffee/tea facilities, iPod docks, work desks, and electronic safes, but not all room have mini-fridges. Suites offer more space and include large living rooms and dining areas with chic decor and furnishings, plus some have wet bars and mini-fridges. Family Fun Suites with bunk beds are also available. Many rooms have private balconies or patios, some overlooking the pool. Bathrooms are a bit small, but clean and contemporary, with light-up mirrors, granite-topped vanities, and shower/tub combos (suites have separate soaking tubs and showers). Some guests have complained about noisy air-conditioning units, and prospective guests should also note that there are no elevators, and those with mobility issues should request ground-floor accessible rooms.
