Summer Music Festivals: Which Hotels Suit These Headliners Best?

See recent posts by Hilary Walke

We know, 5-star hotels and music festivals don't really go in the same sentence -- as most festival-goers sleep under the stars with fellow music junkies. While the thousands of hippies may prefer to sleep closer to nature, the bands they've traveled far and wide to see tend to prefer different accommodations. From Eminem to Taylor Swift, find out which hotels best suit the biggest Bonnaroo and CMA Festival headliners.

Headliner: Eminem Hotel: The Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas

The Palms is known for its crazy parties and celebrity stopovers, aiming to please the hip, the sophisticated and the decadent. With three great clubs and a rowdy pool scene, the Palms knows how to party, and the crowd reflects that. The three-tower complex has a boisterous pool complex with three bars and a DJ, nine restaurants, a spa, and multiple nightclubs, including the rooftop Ghost Bar, the dance club Rain, and a Playboy Club. Sounds like an Eminem recipe to us.

Headliner: Arcade Fire
Hotel: The Greenwich Hotel, New York

This virtually flawless 88-room TriBeCa newcomer — opened in 2008 by Robert de Niro, among others — offers a breathtaking design and very attentive service. The guests-only lobby, drawing room, and courtyard feel like a little TriBeCan oasis. As no photos are allowed, anyone, famous or not, can be discreet and feel at home beyond just their rooms. The uniquely stylish underground pool, Shibui Spa, premier gym, and the new Locanda Verde restaurant attract those desiring exclusivity and privacy. For a band that just won album of the year in the 2011 Grammies, the Greenwich Hotel is the perfect pick.

Headliner: Lil Wayne
Hotel: W Hotel, Los Angeles

Among one of the trendiest places to stay in Los Angeles, The W’s full-size suites have a well laid out living room and dining area. A W that boasts style and substance, this branch has it all: excellent service, amenities aplenty, a hip bar, and large, pimped-out rooms. We’d say Lil Wayne is one of the most pimped-out artists out there, which means he wouldn’t settle for anything less than the W Los Angeles.

Headliner: Taylor Swift
Hotel: Campton Place Taj Hotel, San Fransisco

This luxurious boutique hotel exudes Taylor Swift’s laid back, innocent, girly-sweetheart personality. The luxury boutique hotel is steps from San Fransisco’s Union Square, the heart of town. The hotel feels surprisingly casual, and lacks that over-the-top flair so many over-the-top celebs look for in a hotel. The 21-year-old outrageously popular country singer actually still has some innocence left in her, so let’s try and preserve that in an appropriate hotel.

Headliner: Girl Talk
Hotel: Encore at The Wynn, Las Vegas

Where is the biggest party in town? That’s where you’ll find the newest postmodern rockstar Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk. His cult following and fiery rave energy undoubtedly leads to a crazy night no matter where you are, but as The Encore Beach Club is the it place to party these days, it’s also the place that suits Girl Talk best. With cabanas, daypads, and even lily pads, the top partiers rage here for a wild experience you’ll never forget.

Headliner: Casey James
Hotel: Rancho Valencia Resort, San Diego

Located in the hills of Southern California on 40 acres of lush grounds, the Spanish-style Rancho Valencia Resort suits those who look for a funky, laid back, relaxing scene. The suites, all with fireplaces and patios, are located in 26 casitas spread across the sprawling property, creating a rare level of privacy for guests. The stucco buildings with clay tile roofs are surrounded with gorgeous landscaping — bougainvillea, palm trees, citrus trees, flowering bushes, crawling vines — which adds to the feeling of seclusion. (No wonder celebrities like Bill Gates and President Clinton have chosen to vacation here.) Southern-boy-turned-American-Idol-pop-star Casey James, this hotel is just right for you.

Headliner: Florence + The Machine
Hotel: Reserva Conchal, Costa Rica

Florence is one of those artists who is so unique, charming and down to earth that she deserves a true getaway. We placed her at Reserva Conchal in Costa Rica for that reason. Featuring a series of four individual condo villages and a guests-only Beach-Club, Reserva Conchal is located on the northern Pacific coast of Guanacaste. This dry, sparsely populated area of the country that’s known for its beautiful beaches (including ones where sea turtles nest), has surfing, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, and its string of large resorts. Florence + The machine just fits in well with nature.
