6 Expensive Travel Products Worth Splurging On

We love the word affordable, especially when it's next to travel, but like some vacations, there are certain products that merit the extra cost. That's why we've rounded up the six travel products that are actually worth splurging on, so that you can have a stress-free and memorable getaway.

1. Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones

Whether you’re trying to hear your music playlist at optimal sound, or to block out the crying baby and chatty passengers next to you, a pair of noise-canceling headphones are key to pleasant air travel. The Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones stand out for their consistently high ratings in regards to comfort, sound, and noise-canceling ability. These don’t come cheap, and the over-the-ear headphones mean they’ll take up some luggage space, but it’s well worth it if you want a peaceful plane ride.

2. Away Smart Luggage

Having to buy another suitcase because a wheel or handle was broken during transit will be a thing of the past if you invest in Away smart luggage. Although pricey ($225 for carry-on size and $295 for the largest option), Away luggage is sleek, durable, high-tech, and comes with a lifetime warranty. Each hardshell suitcase has four wheels that rotate 360 degrees, a TSA-approved lock, and two compartments inside. The Carry-On and Bigger Carry-On add a built-in, though removable, battery with USB ports.

3. Kindle Paperwhite

If reading books digitally is the primarily allure of a tablet like the iPad, stick to the cheaper and more lightweight Kindle Paperwhite. Sure, there’s something special about holding a physical book, but in terms of practicality, an e-reader is far superior. The Kindle Paperwhite is glare-free, has 4 GB of storage, and allows readers to look up the definition of words, increase text size, and highlight passages. No more deciding which book or two will fit in your bag, as thousands will be at your fingertips.

4. Global Entry

Waiting in long security lines to take out your liquids and laptop can waste precious time at the airport, which is why many are opting for TSA Precheck and Global Entry. Global Entry is just $15 more than TSA Precheck ($100 versus $85, respectively), making it worth it for anyone likely to be traveling internationally during the five-year membership. Global Entry grants travelers with passports (or permanent resident resident cards) all the privileges of TSA PreCheck  — expedited screening, shorter lines, and no removing your shoes or laptops — plus expedited screening at Customs and Border Protection checkpoints when entering the U.S. In order to get Global Entry, expect to pay the $100 non-refundable application, visit an enrollment center for an interview, and provide fingerprints and I.D.

5. Fujifilm X100S Digital Camera

The camera quality for mobile phones has come a long way, but they still can’t compare to digital cameras. One of our favorite is the Fujifilm X100S because it’s not as bulky or flashy as those with removable lenses, yet it still takes high-quality photos. This compact camera can be easily tucked under a coat while exploring a new city or thrown in a purse while checking into a hotel.

6. GoPro HERO3+: Silver Edition

You don’t have to be an extreme snowboarder or professional surfer to make buying a GoPro a good investment. The Shop Now
