Bottom Line
Housed in a charming old bank building just two blocks from the Inner Harbor, this 116-room Hampton Inn is a solid mid-range choice in a prime location. Besides the basics (clean, comfy rooms; friendly service; business and fitness centers), the Hampton provides useful extras like a free breakfast and an indoor pool. Travelers should also consider Brookshire Suites, right around the corner, which offers an on-site bar and boutique style at similar rates.

Chain hotel with a stylish lobby and historic exterior
This Hampton Inn is situated inside Baltimore’s historic U.S. Fidelity & Guaranty Building, which was originally constructed in the 1800s and rebuilt after the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904. It was converted into a hotel in 2005 and looks quite stylish today thanks to renovations on the lobby and public spaces that were completed in 2013.
The large lobby and dining area features tall windows and inviting contemporary-meets-classic decor. With twinkling gold pendant lights, wall moldings, and an attractive purple and brown color scheme, the space feels particularly classy for a Hampton Inn. Unfortunately, the bland chain hotel style returns throughout the rest of the property.
Location
Prime Inner Harbor location for families and business travelers
This Hampton Inn has one of the best locations in the city for tourists and business travelers. The hotel is just over a block from major museums and attractions along the waterfront, including two malls (The Gallery and Harborplace Mall), which are filled with retail clothing shops and restaurants (several of them waterfront). In addition, the Baltimore Convention Center is about three blocks from the hotel. For easy access to other areas of the harbor, there is a water taxi located just up the street, and the free Charm City Circulator bus stops one block away.
- Seven-minute walk to the National Aquarium
- Seven-minute walk to the Baltimore Convention Center
- 11-minute drive to Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins University
- 12-minute walk to Oriole Park at Camden Yards
- 15-minute drive to Baltimore Airport (BWI)
Rooms
Bland rooms and suites with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers
Nothing distinguishes these rooms from any other Hampton Inn, though the Standard Rooms are definitely on the small side. They come with a comfy king or queen bed (or two queens) and run-of-the-mill decor in shades of brown, gray, and beige. There are also Studio Suites with sofa beds. Every unit includes free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, microwave, mini-fridge, and coffeemaker. There’s also a special Mahogany Suite that includes a whirlpool and king bed.
Features
Free breakfast and Wi-Fi, indoor pool, convenience store, and gym
There is no restaurant or bar, but the free buffet breakfast offers lots of hot and cold options, including a waffle-making station and eggs. The hotel has a modest indoor pool, 24-hour business center, and a small fitness center with three cardio machines and one weight machine. The hotel also has a guest laundry room and a 24-hour convenience store selling snacks and necessities. Free “On-the-Run” breakfast bags are available on weekdays. Airport transportation is available for an additional fee. Parking is valet-only and pricey.
