The 135-room Hampton Inn Majestic Chicago Theater
District is a three-pearl chain property located in the historic Majestic Building and conveniently connected to the Bank of America Theater. A free breakfast,
24-hour fitness center, and room service partnerships with local restaurants
are some of the features offered. Rooms have a warm vibe and
include flat-screen TVs and coffee/tea makers, though some of the furniture is
dated and worn. The location is prime -- a short walk from several sights and well serviced by public transportation. Travelers seeking a more contemporary, stylish hotel could try Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront, though rates tend to be higher.
Scene
In a historic building connected to the Bank of America Theater
Part of the Hampton Inn chain of hotels, this Chicago property is located in the Majestic Building, which dates back to 1906
and at one time was the tallest building in Chicago. It has beautiful stone
artwork and was created as the home of the Majestic Theater, now known as the
Bank of America Theater, which hosted the likes of Harry Houdini and currently
presents Broadway shows and musical acts. The hotel itself begins on the 4th floor of the building. The lobby is small and somewhat cramped with an open-plan design that combines the front desk area with the breakfast room. Decor is a
mix of contemporary style paired with details that hark back to its theater history, including production posters and photographs adorning the walls. Marble walls and tile floors in creamy hues lend a posh touch, while the orange accents of the front desk liven up the neutral hues of the breakfast area beside it. Guests are mostly couples and families
congregating at breakfast, however, the downtown location attracts a
significant number of business travelers as well.
Location
Located in Chicago's Theater District and within walking distance of popular attractions
The hotel is located
in downtown Chicago in the city’s Theater District and within walking
distance of many attractions including Millennium Park (a five-minute walk), the Art Institute of Chicago (six-minute walk), and the Willis Tower (10-minute walk). A
variety of restaurants can be found on surrounding streets. The Monroe Blue and Red subway stations are around the corner from the hotel, plus there are several bus stops nearby, giving quick and easy access to many other Chicago favorites, such as the shopping avenue of Magnificent Mile (about 17 minutes via public transportation), Navy Pier (20 minutes away), or Wrigley Field (22 minutes away). Midway International Airport can be reached in about a half-hour on the Orange Line, while O'Hare International Airport is 42 minutes away via the Blue Line.
Rooms
Spacious rooms with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and lap desks
Rooms feature a pleasant, if a touch dated, orange-and-brown color scheme with tangerine and cream-colored walls paired with matching curtains and patterned brown carpets. Rooms are spacious and include flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, work desks, and laptop lap desks. Microwaves and mini-fridges
can be added to the rooms for a fee, if available. Most rooms have beige armchairs, while some King Rooms offer pullout sofas. Bathrooms, which are quite large, maintain the orange and tan color scheme and offer a significant amount of counter space and shower/tub combos. Neutrogena toiletries
and hairdryers are also provided.
Features
Free hot breakfast, room service, and a 24-hour fitness center
The hotel provides a free hot
breakfast in the morning, as well as the option of a free On the Run breakfast bag for guests on the go. The breakfast area is a bit small, however, so morning crowds are a frequent occurrence.
Room service for lunch and dinner is available through a partnership with local
restaurants, Rosebud Prime and Italian Village, one of Chicago’s oldest Italian
restaurants. The hotel has a small 24-hour fitness room with four cardio machines and a set of
free weights. For business travelers, there's a 24-hour business
center with two computers and a printer, and though there are no meeting rooms on-site, the hotel works
with neighboring Workspring to offer work and
meeting spaces (for a fee). The hotel has a small shop, the Suite
Shop, which sells personal items and snacks. Valet parking is available,
though it’s expensive and complaints have been made about the service.
