A three-and-a-half pearl property on a busy road in the Tower Hill section of London, the Chamberlain Hotel is above a tony pub whose traditional, club-room vibe permeates the hotel's common areas. As of summer 2015, the hotel was in the midst of renovating its decor, which means its 64 rooms range from traditional and a touch worn to classic, contemporary, and polished; some rooftop rooms have furnished terraces. As the property is owned by Fuller's Brewery, the on-site pub, with its menu of England past and present, is a real draw for both tourists and the business travelers that also make use of the Chamberlain's meeting rooms. For hipper, more eclectic modern rooms in the same neighborhood, travelers should try the Hotel Indigo London Tower Hill.
Scene
Authentic British lodging drawing a tourist and business crowd
The limestone and beige brick Chamberlain Hotel, built in 1910, has a spacious lobby with red and gold patterned carpet and a stained-oak reception desk under a coffered ceiling with delicate dentil trim. The look is traditional and tucked-in: One wall features burgundy wallpaper in an oversized floral print; the other walls are beige. Like the adjoining pub, the seating is oxblood leather, modest in scale and tailored in appearance. Black and white etchings under picture lights and armchairs and sofas clustered around low, dark wood tables enhance the clubhouse atmosphere. The spacious pub is both cozy and cheerful with many beers on tap, distressed leather furniture and flocked cranberry wallpaper with daylight streaming in from big, arched windows onto its polished wood floors. The three conference rooms and central location may interest business travelers. And tourists like the Chamberlain's proximity to iconic attractions such as the nearby Tower of London.

Rooms
From traditional, English club style to contemporary classic decor
The 64 rooms at the Chamberlain are all well-appointed with good quality fixtures and linens. There are Twin or Double Club Rooms with traditional wallpaper, cherry wood furnishings, and small-print floral pillows or rooms in light blue with a bohemian, country-house feel with mix and match plaids and florals. Some of the Luxury Double Rooms include cowhide print upholstered chairs, sleek leather headboards, and silver or black silk throws and draperies with jewel-toned accent pillows. The rooftop rooms have small terraces with trellises, black rattan furniture, and boxwood plants. Bathrooms have marble-topped sinks, wood-trimmed vanities, and chrome fixtures. Showers are either stall or tub and shower combinations. All of the rooms have flatscreen TVs, minibars, electric kettles, free Wi-Fi, safes, radios, and magnifying mirrors.
