Bottom Line

This 57-room mid-range property is located on a narrow side street off Gran Via, an iconic avenue running through the heart of Madrid. While the location is ideal for exploring tourist sights on foot, the hotel could use some updates. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, hydro-massage showers, and free Wi-Fi, but are showing some wear and tear. Rooms do vary by category, and there are some rooms with touches of style including patterned throw pillows, modern headboards, and nice curtains. Low rates make this a good budget option in a very central location.

Petit Palace Cliper Gran Via

Location

On a small street off Gran Via, near shopping, dining, nightlife, and major attractions

Chinchilla is a narrow street off Gran Via, a historic avenue lined by 19th and early 20th-century architecture, upscale boutiques, and great dining and nightlife. It runs right through the heart of Madrid, so expect crowds and traffic day and night. The subway, bus, and train are nearby, but there are so many attractions within walking distance that many people prefer to walk to most sights.

Gran Via and Sol are part of grand old Madrid. Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, Cibeles and its gorgeous Palacio de Comunicaciones, Puerta de Alcala, and even the Retiro park are less than a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

The Huertas area, right by Sol, is a nightlife hotspot, and Carretas, Preciados, and Carmen streets are a major shopping destination, as is Gran Via proper, with dozens of international and domestic chains, such as Zara, Desigual, Women’s Secret, and H&M.

  • 20-minute drive to Madrid-Barajas Airport
  • Steps to restaurants, bars, shopping, and nightlife
  • 5-minute walk to Puerta del Sol
  • 10-minute walk to Plaza Mayor
  • 12-minute walk to Plaza de Oriente, home to the Royal Palace, the Royal Theater, and Sabatini Gardens
  • 13-minute walk to La Latina, a nightlife hotspot
  • 13-minute walk to Cibeles
  • 15-minutes walk to La Almudena Cathedral
  • 16-minute walk to Thyssen Bornemisza Museum
  • 18-minutes walk to El Prado Museum
  • 18-minute walk to Puerta de Alcala
  • 19-minute walk to Retiro park
  • 21-minute walk to upscale shopping on Serrano Street
  • 21-minute walk or a 12-minute subway ride to Templo de Debod park, with great views and an original Egyptian temple
  • 12-minute subway ride to Reina Sofia Museum
