Hotel du Theatre by Patrick Hayat

The Hebertot Theatre sits across the street, and that's where the Hotel du Theatre gets its name and inspiration. Its quaint lobby features leather vintage Chesterfield sofas, dressmaker dummies in scarlet costumes, and walls papered in a silhouette theater motif. There are also shelves of books that guests can borrow, a table with coffee and tea, and an oak reception desk. Breakfast is served in a charming, albeit tiny, stone-vaulted cave. Located off the main tourist track, the hotel has a local vibe, with supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, and bakeries nearby. It attracts mainly couples, families, and a few business travelers, who can make use the modest conference and meeting room. For art buffs, the hotel was the former home of Andre Breton, the original Dadaist who founded Surrealism.

The hotel is located on the quiet Rue de Cheroy in a residential neighborhood with many restaurants and shops -- it's a six-minute walk to the lively market on the Rue de Levis. The metro station Rome is a three-minute walk from the hotel, while the Villiers station is a four-minute walk in the opposite direction. It's not an area of major tourist sights, but the beautiful Parc Monceau is within a 10-minute walk, and the historic Montmartre area is four metro stops away (get out at Anvers, or switch at Pigalle and get out at Abbesses). The Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysees  are an 18-minute metro ride, while the Opera and major department stores such as Galeries Lafayette are a 13-minute metro ride. Charles de Gaulle Airport is about a 30-minute drive, depending on traffic.

Rooms at the Hotel du Theatre are small -- bedside tables in the Twin Rooms are wedged between the wall and mattress, yet their style, which some might find old-fashioned, evokes historic Paris. The wallpaper is pretty, with cream, peach, and deep-red stripes. The carpet has a red-patterned floral design. A built-in desk (with chair) is tiny, but the wood is a warm, honey color. All rooms have flat-screen TVs and safes but no tea- or coffee-making facilities, and face either the street or a tiny courtyard. Some have Juliet balconies. Bathrooms are small but sleek and modern, with buff- or chocolate-colored tiles, white porcelain fixtures, and polished chrome fittings. Stall showers and tubs are enclosed by glass partitions, giving them a streamlined look. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. 

Breakfast, with pastries made by an in-house chef, is free for guests who book directly with the hotel. There's also a room for meetings or conferences, which can accommodate up to 30 people. Books are available to borrow in the lobby, and free coffee and tea is available as well. The hotel offers off-site discounted parking (it has an arrangement with a nearby garage), and the hotel is pet friendly. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
