Hotel Residence Foch

With its simple Haussmannian facade, Hotel
Residence Foch is a quintessentially Parisian construction on the outside, and is surrounded by other iterations of this charming architectural style. Interiors, however, fuse colorful, modern decor with numerous artistic references to
classical French culture, from gilt-framed 18th-century etchings to
stained-glass windows to trompe-l'oeil library-print wallpaper. There are also contemporary takes on period furniture and chandeliers. The mood is hushed and
traditional, yet relaxed, especially in the
secluded, rear courtyard decorated with potted palms and scented with
honeysuckle. Clientele consists of a mix of business travelers and diplomats -- taking advantage of the hotel's location -- and the slightly older tourist who appreciates a peaceful
retreat away from the bustle of central Paris.****

The
hotel is found in the very desirable Embassy Quarter of the 16th arrondissement,
in the northwest of Paris. The Residence Foch’s location on a quiet road just
inside the capital's Boulevard Périphérique ring road means very easy access by
car, while there are three metro stations nearby as well. The iconic Arc de
Triomphe is about 15 minutes east on foot, and guests can also walk to the
start of the famous shopping avenues of the Champs-Élysées. The close proximity of Boulogne
wood also provides an excellent spot for a jog or boating during the day, while
Paris' famed exhibition hall, the Palais des Congrès, is another short jaunt
away. Charles de Gaulle Airport is about a 30-minute drive northeast
while getting to Orly Airport to the south is about the same amount of time. ****

Decor
in the Residence Foch’s 25 rooms continue the hotel's interior design styling
of modern schemes with motifs and artworks referencing classical 18th-century
France -- some focusing on the doomed Dauphine Marie-Antoinette. The 21st-century
amenities include free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs as well as minibars and tea
and coffee facilities. Bathrooms are modern and clean with wall-mounted
hairdryers and quality toiletries. Some of the rooms open to balconies
overlooking the street or courtyard, while one unit -- number 62 – affords guests
a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. ****

Amenities are limited at the Residence Foch, though what’s
available highlights the property’s emphasis on understated quality. The hotel
serves an American-style breakfast buffet in its small dining area, or a
continental can be delivered to the room, though neither are included in room
rates. A tiny bar is licensed to serve drinks around the clock, which can also
be enjoyed in the secluded rear courtyard. Wi-Fi is available free of charge throughout
the venue, and there’s also a computer terminal available for guests' use.
