Housed in a seven-floor building with a concrete facade, Hyatt Place Salt Lake City follows a similar theme to other hotels within the Hyatt brand. Inside, the hotel is sleek with contemporary design and decor. A dedicated area for breakfast and the snack/drink bar spills out to a contemporary lobby with ample space for huddling over a laptop or sharing coffee with colleagues. Decor is clean and simple with rich colors like brown, maroon, and olive green with a contemporary mix of decor and artwork. The central gas fireplace, stack of daily newspapers, and bowl of apples add a personal touch to what could be a stiff corporate atmosphere. Opposite to the rest of the hotel, the meeting and event space is quite old fashioned with bland decor and outdated furniture. Due to its central location and well-known brand, this hotel attracts a variety of guests including both leisure and business travelers.

Hyatt Place Salt Lake City is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, within close walking distance to numerous bars and restaurants, along with shopping and entertainment complexes. Clark Planetarium, with cinema and laser shows, is located a block behind the hotel (four-minute walk). Discovery Gateway Children's Museum is a five-minute walk. Two blocks in the other direction are Abravanel Hall (10-minute walk) and the Salt Palace Convention Center (12-minute walk). Temple Square's gardens and religious sites are a 10-minute walk, or three-minute drive, from the hotel. Vivint Smart Home Arena is an 11-minute walk or two-minute drive. The hotel is also conveniently located for access to public transport. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel and the Planetarium Tram Station is just four minutes away on foot. Salt Lake City International Airport is a 12-minute drive away.

The 128 guest rooms at Hyatt Place Salt Lake City are spacious and contemporary in both design and amenities. The decor is somewhat corporate in style, with dark woods, earth tones, carpeting, and warm lighting. Each room features a cleverly designed divider that separates the sleeping and living areas, and the wall-mounted swiveling flat-screen TV is visible from both areas. The living areas include gray sofas/sofa sleepers and brown leather coffee tables, with mood lighting and modern artwork. Rooms include either a king-size bed or two queen beds, along with the option for either accessible rooms or rooms on higher floors. All units feature air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea- and- coffee-making facilities, desks, telephones, irons and ironing boards, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms either have walk-in showers or shower/tub combos with large granite vanities, hairdryers, and KenetMD toiletries.

Features are focused mostly on convenience. The daily breakfast buffet is free for all guests and includes a selection of hot and cold items. In the lobby, there's the Coffee to Cocktails Bar which serves beer, wine, and cocktails along with Starbucks coffee throughout the day.
