The Golden Beach Resort is a 70-unit, mid-range hotel on the Aonang beachfront, overlooking the Andaman Sea. Elegant rooms and bungalows have a mix of marble floors and dark-wood ceilings and furnishings, and private balconies or terraces -- some also have jetted tubs. The on-site restaurant stays open throughout the day, and the outdoor swimming pool has elephant fountain features and lots of shaded lounge chairs. The tour desk can arrange excursions and activities for guests. Some of the room furnishings, however, are dated and worn, and the Wi-Fi signal can be spotty. Plus, there's no fitness center. Travelers might want to check out the larger Holiday Inn Krabi Ao Nang Beach, which has a gym and spa, but rates are higher.
Scene
Family-friendly hotel with a spacious, pavilion-style lobby, and a gorgeous pool
Popular with families and couples alike, the Golden Beach Resort is aimed toward leisure travelers (although there are a few conference rooms for those in town for business). The lobby is housed in a large pavilion with granite floors and columns and wooden chandelier light fixtures. There are a couple of seating areas with tables and cushioned chairs, and a small lending library for guests' use. The restaurant -- Thai Thai -- has decor similar to the lobby's, with the same white-painted domed roof, columns, and wooden chandeliers. While open and pretty, neither space is as inviting as the large tree-lined pool.
Location
On Krabi's pretty Ao Nang Beach, near bars and restaurants
The Golden Beach Resort is located on Krabi's pretty Ao Nang Beach, in a pedestrian-friendly area surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and bars. It's a 20-minute drive to Krabi Town and a half-hour drive to the Tiger Cave Temple. Railay Beach, which is popular for rock climbing, can be reached in about 20 minutes via long-tail boat. It's a 40-minute drive to the Krabi Airport and just over two hours to Phuket International Airport.
Rooms
Air-conditioned rooms and bungalows with elegant wood furniture and colorful accents
The 70 rooms at the Golden Beach Resort vary a bit from one another but all come with air-conditioning, satellite cable, minibars, kettles, and private terraces or balconies. In the main hotel building there are both Deluxe Rooms and Superior Suites, while guests wanting a bit more privacy can opt for private bungalows with either garden or sea views. Decor includes dark-wood furnishings accented by colorful throw pillows, and the bathrooms generally have shower/tub combos (though units with jetted tubs are available), toiletries, and hairdryers. Rooms are booked for double occupancy, and though children can stay in parents' room, fees might apply for breakfast and extra beds.
Features
Lovely outdoor pool, a restaurant, meeting rooms, free Wi-Fi and parking
The Golden Beach Resort's most striking feature is its gorgeous outdoor pool, with elephant-head fountain features and an adjacent kids' pool. The space is surrounded by tropical trees and shrubbery, and there's plenty of umbrella-shaded seating to go around. Other features include an on-site restaurant, Thai Thai, where a free breakfast is served every morning. The restaurant also serves Thai and international cuisine for lunch and dinner, including fresh seafood, and has a large selection of liquors for beachside cocktails. Room service is also available. There's no fitness center or on-site spa, but in-room Thai massage is available on request. The hotel also has two conference rooms for weddings and meetings, though the spaces are a little dark and perhaps not the most romantic venues for destination weddings. Currency exchange, luggage storage, laundry, and airport transfers are also available. The tour counter can help arrange activities. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and on-site secure parking is free too.
