The Cà Maria
Adele is an upscale, 12-room boutique hotel set in the quiet and secluded art quarter in the south of Venice -- though with easy boat access to the rest of the
island. Interiors throughout are beautifully and lavishly finished with dark wood, black pony skin sofas, flock wallpaper, and Murano chandeliers. The individually styled 'Concept' rooms are particularly stunning, and some have views of the canal. Free daily breakfast includes a glass of Prosecco, and guests can order evening drinks to enjoy anywhere in the hotel, including the Moroccan-style terrace. The intimate ambience of
this tiny hotel might not appeal to all, especially those who have mobility
issues, but for a peaceful romantic getaways, the typically steep rates could
well be worth every penny.
Scene
Tranquil, intimate, and romantic vibe in plush, bohemian setting
Guests
approaching this inconspicuous, 16th-century canal-side property by water
taxi can hop onto the hotel's private landing stage and step directly into
the reception area -- through an arched entrance, a low and ancient-wood
beamed ceiling instantly creates a feeling of hushed intimacy, while gold and
purple brocade seating gives a first glimpse of the hotel's lavish styling. Behind
the African teak reception desk, hosts Alessio and Nicola Campa are often on hand
to welcome visitors and show them around the wonderfully snug lobby/lounge
chockfull of ornate antiques, Venetian curios, and stylish contemporary
flourishes. A breakfast room is decorated with baroque-style damask-patterned wallpaper, golden chairs, chiffon drapery, and marble-topped
tables, all illuminated with a centerpiece Murano chandelier. Despite the
sumptuous, extravagant interiors, the ambience is supremely laid-back with a
bohemian edge, while the intimate atmosphere is facilitated by little noise
beyond the occasional distant water taxi. The combination of style and elegance, together with its
no under 16s policy, makes this hotel hugely popular with couples keen to
really take advantage of Venice's reputation as the City of Romance.
Location
Set in secluded spot next to the Salute with easy access to the Grand Canal
The hotel is in
the Dorsoduro district of southern Venice, tucked away behind the beautiful
Salute church in a quiet spot away from the tourist crowds. The location is just a minute walk
from the south opening to the Grand Canal and the Salute Valporetto stop, meaning the hotel is very easy to reach by
public boat -- San Marco and Rialto are about 10 minutes away by canal boat. Being
set in the art district also means there are plenty of galleries within walking distance, including the Punta della Dogana di Mare, which hosts exhibitions of contemporary art, the
world-famous Guggenheim Collection, and the Gallerie dell' Accademia, housing a trove
of Venetian paintings.
Rooms
Sumptuously finished rooms, many individually furnished
The hotel has 12
rooms in all -- five Concept rooms,
two Suites, and five Deluxe rooms. Deluxe rooms are elegantly decorated with
gold-flock wallpaper and furnished in African wood in a blend of traditional
Venetian and contemporary styling, while the concept rooms offer extremely
plush, individually themed rooms beautifully finished with unique, antique
furnishings. One Suite also offers a jetted tub at the foot of the bed, while
the other a small furnished balcony. In-room amenities include Wi-Fi and soft
drink minibar - both free of charge -- and flat-screen TVs with CD/DVD players,
while bathrooms provide Gilchrist & Soames toiletries and marble walk-in showers. Many rooms also
include views over the canal.
Features
Morning breakfast and evening drinks on a Moroccan Terrace
The hotel has
no restaurant, but guests order breakfast each evening and can choose to take
it either in their rooms, on the second-floor Moroccan Terrace, or in any of the
plush lobby lounges -- rates include breakfast. There's no actual bar either,
but evening drinks can be ordered from and enjoyed anywhere in the hotel. There's also an honor
bar after nine o'clock at night, stocked with Prosecco, spirits, and soft drinks. A light menu of
salads, snacks, and tasting plates can also be ordered via room service, and a
library of CDs and DVDs is available to guests. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
