The modern Hotel
Rathaus Wein & Design is actually built inside a restored historic townhouse in
Josefstadt, Vienna’s eighth district. The 39-room boutique hotel features large
rooms with sleek wooden furniture, trendy bathroom appliances, and an
individualized minibar inspired by a specific, local Austrian vintner. A breakfast buffet gets rave reviews for quality though there isn't a full restaurant for lunch and dinner. The
Museum Quarter is between a five-10-minute walk, just far enough away
from the hustle and bustle of the Inner Ring but still close enough to skip public
transport.
Scene
A modern complement to Vienna’s historic center
If peace and quiet is what you’re after, the Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design is hard to beat. Located mere blocks from Vienna’s historic Inner Ring, the hotel still maintains its unique wine-theme and sleek interior design aesthetic. The wine theme is pervasive, if occasionally so subtle that guests may not notice it. Everything from the wine-flavored cheese served at the breakfast buffet to the wine cosmetics inside each room speaks to the hotel’s theme without feeling overdone. In an effort to offer a personalized boutique experience, each room is individually furnished and guests can state their preferences. For example, if you prefer walk-in rain-showers to bathtubs or white wine over red, the hotel will work to assign the best room for that preference. Individuals and small groups can book private tastings that feature local delicacies prepared by the in-house chef.
Location
A few blocks from the historic center
It’s hard to believe that such a quiet block leads directly into Vienna’s bustling historic center, also referred to as the Inner Ring. The Ringstrasse literally translates to “Ring Road,” which is a boulevard that follows the path of where the city walls once stood before their destruction. Several top rated city attractions are within walking distance, like the Parliament Building and the People’s Park (Volksgarten). Directly surrounding the Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design are a number of other boutique hotels and small restaurants. Note that there's no available parking on-site. A paid lot is located nearby and it requires advance reservations.
Rooms
Modern, minimalist rooms with lots of personal touches
Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design takes an original approach to interior
decor. Both modern and stylish, each room is furnished with a particular Austrian vintner in mind and the in-room minibar reflects this as well. The Attic Suite, complete with a private rooftop terrace, is dedicated to German Riesling. White walls and medium-to-dark wood furniture paired with portraits of the room's designated winemaker's family and vineyards adds a personal touch to an otherwise minimalist space. Some rooms overlook the street while others have a courtyard view.
Minimalist wood furniture, high-ceilings, and white walls create the illusion of
extra space and the large windows let in lots of light. Rooms are equipped with the comforts of a home and office — a direct-dial telephone, broadband Internet connection, a work desk and flat-screen TV mounted on the wall.
Features
Traditional and modern features
The Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design has the simple comforts of home and
the amenities of a top-notch hotel. Pets are allowed inside the rooms and there
are also dry cleaning and laundry services available for an additional fee. The breakfast buffet (for an additional charge) gets high marks for quality, quantity, and availability from the early hours until as late as noon on holidays. Expect to nibble on cheese, meats, homemade cakes, and Austrian-style sausage. There's no fitness center but there is a business center where guests can work in a quiet space; Wi-Fi is free. The hotel also helps guests organize one-day
excursions to nearby wine regions. ****
