The Harmonie Vienna is a four-pearl, 66-room boutique-style hotel in trendy Serviten, a neighborhood filled with restaurants and boutique shops. The property is within walking distance of Hofburg Palace and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, but most major sights require a tram or bus ride. Rooms are modern with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars. In addition to a pricey breakfast buffet, there's a small gym, meeting rooms, and a charming lounge where guests can relax over free afternoon tea, coffee, and cakes. Travelers might want to compare rates with the similarly priced Levante Parliament, which is closer to the city center and has an on-site restaurant and sauna, with massages available.
Scene
Fashionable boutique hotel with a sleek decor and dance-inspired paintings throughout
The Harmonie Vienna is housed in two 19th-century gray buildings set side-by-side with a vertical garden. It was built in 1863 by world famous architect Otto Wagner, underwent a renovation in 2013, and added two meeting rooms in 2016. The design is trendy and chic throughout with a collection of dance-inspired paintings by artist Luis Casanova Sorolla. The lobby is sleek with glossy white floors, stone-tiled walls, jet-black floor lamps, and two mod oval chandeliers. But there's little in the way of seating here, aside from some leather ottomans. A more inviting space to linger would be the breakfast room and lounge, with flamboyant red-white-and-gray decor. A boldly striped couch, lipstick-red lamps, and white molded plastic chairs in the shape of traditional wingback armchairs give a trendy twist to the space, which also holds a fireplace and a library of books. Afternoon tea is served here. The breakfast room has an equally upscale ambience with an excessive use of stripes in red-and-black benches and black-and-white striped chairs. The clientele is a mix of couples, business travelers, and families, despite a lack of kid-friendly amenities.
Location
In a trendy neighborhood with restaurants, shops, and the tram nearby
The Harmonie Vienna is located on a relatively quiet street in the Serviten Quarter, a hip local neighborhood with restaurants and boutiques on surrounding streets. Some sights are within walking distance (though they're a bit of a trek), such as Hofburg Palace, a 20-minute walk away, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a 23-minute walk. The closest tram stop is a three-minute walk from the hotel, and a U-Bahn station is an 11-minute walk. Vienna International Airport is about a 25-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Modern rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and kettles
The Harmonie Vienna Vienna's 66 rooms are modern and chic with bright pops of color from orange velour bed runners, vibrant dance-themed art pieces, and gold-and-white striped pillows. Compared to the public spaces, they're a bit more subdued, though molded plastic wingback armchairs do add a trendy flourish. The rooms are fairly spacious with flat-screen TVs with multi-language channels and Sky-TV, and apps for mobile devices, kettles, laptop-size safes, free Wi-Fi, adjustable air-conditioning, and minibars. Large desks have LED lights, and free high-speed Wi-Fi. Chocolate and candy on the beds are thoughtful extras. Some Superior Rooms are allergy-friendly, while Suites have small espresso makers. Bathrooms are sleek with tiles in a warm, sandy hue. They offer plenty of counter space, magnifying mirrors, shower/tub combos, Pure Herbs toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Breakfast buffet, free afternoon tea and cakes, meeting rooms, public computer, and free Wi-Fi
There's no restaurant on-site, but a pricey buffet breakfast is served every morning in the breakfast room and on the lovely outdoor patio. Organic ingredients are used to create Austrian, American, Japanese, and Styrian breakfasts. In the afternoon, guests can help themselves to free tea (or coffee) and cakes in the lounge area, as well as purchase drinks (including wine) and snacks 24 hours a day from the mini market in the lobby. The hotel has a modest gym with up-to-date cardio and weight equipment, though no spa. As of 2016, there’s two fully equipped meeting rooms for up to 28 people, a public computer and printer, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel doesn’t have a parking garage, but the staff can provide detailed instructions on how to get to nearby parking garages for guests with cars.
