Best Fourth Of July Fireworks
These views top all others for the most spectacular fireworks shows around the country.
Washington D.C. Around 9:15 pm, gaze up as the capitol's sky is illuminated with dazzling fireworks on the National Mall. The coolest part? The fireworks are actually launched from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and light up the sky over the Washington Monument. Doesn't get much better.
Stay: The W Washington D.C. is new and gorgeous -- the fusion cuisine from Jean-Georges Vongerichten; a fashionable rooftop bar; a great spa and gym; Whatever/Whenever service; and a convenient location to the Mall make it your perfect 4th of July Washington D.C. stay.
New York City Sharing many characteristics as the bustling city itself, New York City's fireworks display is famous for a reason. The unique, colorful, and extraordinary production will 'wow' you from start to finish. They'll light up the sky between 24th and 50th streets on the Hudson River beginning at 9:20pm.
Stay: Ink 48 is close to the river and has a beautiful rooftop, so if you're looking for convenience this is your pick. It's quiet, stylish, and a 15-minute walk from touristy Times Square (and the subway) -- Ink48 (opened September 2009) is on the far western reaches of Hell's Kitchen, an increasingly fashionable neighborhood. Its solid service, gorgeous rooftop lounge, free wine receptions, and pet-friendly features make it a great choice, as well as its full-service spa.
Los Angeles Head over to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for a beautiful (and free) 60 minute fireworks show launched from nearby. Bring blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the show at around 8:45 pm.
Stay: The J.W. Marriott Hotel offers a beautiful pool, great views from the rooftop bar, tons of meeting space, and plenty of restaurants. The L.A. Live Center is a huge hub in downtown Los Angeles (home to the Staples Center and Nokia Theater).
Right on Miami Beach, the annual Fourth of July patriotic celebration of music and fireworks takes place again this year. Bring beach chairs and towels to this fun (and free) event beginning at 7:30 pm on 8th Street and Ocean Drive.
Stay: The Hotel of South Beach is centrally located in a historic Art Deco building, and is a darling little hotel by designer Todd Oldham and developer/hotelier Tony Goldman. Simple, comfortable rooms are soundproofed, so guests can take advantage of the surrounding SoBe scene and still shut it out at night. Guests spend most of their time at the rooftop pool.
