Scene
Beachfront boutique with upscale details
El Oceano Beach Hotel is a family-run boutique -- owners are often seen chatting with guests -- that caters to couples with its 14-and-over policy and widespread sea views. The upscale, contemporary vibe is apparent as seen as guests enter the foyer with gray-marble flooring and a glass chandelier. The reception area has a chic, beach-inspired design consisting of light-wood floors, neutral-tone wall with paint effects, and beige couches topped with turquoise and pale-green cushions. Metal lamps and candle holders, plus hanging glass light fixtures add style. The other common spaces, as well as rooms, continue this elegant, Mediterranean vibe with neutral-tone furnishings, attractive stonework, and a few fountains and sculptures. The property is largely relaxed and peaceful, except for the popular Sunday lunches with include multi-course meals followed by live music and dancing by the pool.
Location
Beachfront location, walking distance from bars and restaurants
This hotel has an excellent beachfront location about equidistant to Marbella (17-minute drive) and Fuengirola (14-minute drive). For those wanting to stay put, there are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. A beachfront boardwalk is just outside the hotel and runs in both directions. Of course the beach is just outside of the hotel's doors, but there are restaurants and bars nearby, too. Malaga Airport is about 30 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Elegant and contemporary rooms, most with sea views
The upscale style of the hotel continues into the guest rooms. Lovely rooms are outfitted with beige-marble or carpet flooring, cream-colored walls, classic two-tone or dark-wooden furniture, neutral-tone linens, and framed artwork that gives it a homey vibe. Furnishings include small dressers, vanities, and sitting areas. Most -- but not all -- rooms have furnished balconies or terraces with stunning sea views. The four breathtaking Penthouse Suites made their debut in the summer of 2016, and there are also Jacuzzi Suites with huge tubs. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flatscreen TVs, well-stocked minibars, safes, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Sleek bathrooms are well-sized and come with either shower/tub combos, bidets, bathrobes, slippers, hairdryers, and ample free bath products. Note that some past guests have complainted of noise from the road and evening entertainment
Features
Swim-up pool bar, beach access, spa facilities, and a notable Sunday lunch
This boutique property offers a good list of facilities, though it lacks a gym. Aside from direct beach access, the highlight is the outdoor pool with lovely sea views. It has a swim-up bar, and an adjacent sundeck with free loungers and umbrellas. There are also VIP sunbeds for a cost, and they come with the added perk of personal waiter service. An indoor pool is also on-site, as well as spa facilities and a beauty salon. Guests can choose to pamper themselves with treatments ranging from deep-tissue massage to mani-pedis. The fine-dining restaurant is stellar and has an outdoor terrace, though it's most popular for its famous Sunday lunch that includes two- or three-course meals, as well as live music and dancing by the pool. Previous guests have suggested booking well in advance. A cocktail lounge is also available.
