Le Montrose Suite Hotel
Hollywood/West Hollywood, Los Angeles

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $179/night, down from $298
  • You save 40 percent

Why we love it: A plain yet comfortable all-suite property, Le Montrose is steps from Sunset Boulevard but far enough away to be a tranquil retreat. A rooftop pool and tennis court — along with a decent fitness center and sauna — are the sum of the amenities, but many guests are just happy to order room service and enjoy their 52-inch flat-screen TVs. Hotel Angeleno
West LA, Los Angeles

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $144/night, down from $206
  • You save 30 percent

Why we love it: Don’t let the location inches from the 405 freeway scare you. The 209-room Hotel Angeleno, a 10-minute drive from UCLA and the Getty, is one of L.A.’s best values. Not much is within walking distance, but the rooms are immaculate, the pool is pleasant, the Wi-Fi is free, and the penthouse restaurant has panoramic views. The Standard, Downtown LA
Downtown, Los Angeles

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $180/night, down from their usual $234
  • You save 30 percent

Why we love it: This once-hip, 207-room hotel may be the forgotten child of the Standard empire — it’s somewhat run-down — but the poolside view is still hard to beat, the design is still striking, the prices can dip way low, and you can still count on it for a party. A fine deal for low-budget travelers who want a stellar downtown location and don’t mind some grime. Read the full Standard, Downtown LA hotel review.

Parc 55 in San Francisco

Parc 55 in San Francisco

Parc 55
Union Square, San Francisco

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $234/night, down from $292
  • You save 20 percent

Why we love it: After its 2009 renovations, the big, bustling, 1,010-room Parc 55 hotel has some great, modern touches — big HD flat-screens, an extensive contemporary art collection, and top-notch equipment in the fitness center. It’s a fine choice for Union Square, four blocks from the theaters and fashion boutiques, though the nearby Marriott and Hilton hotels are both very comparable. Read the full Parc 55 hotel review.

The Colonnade Hotel
Back Bay, Boston

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $299/night, down from $373
  • You save 20 percent

Why we love it: Boasting the city’s only rooftop pool, this 285-room Back Bay hotel offers spacious standard rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, a fitness center with South End views, and an affordable French brasserie. Score a cheap rate, and it’s worth it — despite the lack of 24-hour room service and the $14-per-day Wi-Fi charge. Read the full Colonnade Hotel review.

W Boston
Back Bay, Boston

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $273/night, down from $342
  • You save 20 percent

Why we love it: With large, stylish rooms, a Jean-Georges restaurant, a happening bar, and a Bliss spa, the sleek, 235-room outpost of the trendy brand offers a striking, modern alternative to Boston’s historic hotels and traditional chains. It does, however, lack the unique charms of smaller boutique properties. Read the full W Boston hotel review.

Marenas Resort in Miami

Marenas Resort in Miami

Marenas Resort
Northern Beaches, Miami

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $119/night, down from $199
  • You save 40 percent

Why we love it: For a well-equipped beachside Miami resort located in the safe, kid-friendly suburban city of Sunny Isles, the Marenas Resort (formerly Le Meridien, an upscale Starwood-brand hotel) is a fine option, even if its rooms are a bit small. This is especially true for families who want kitchen-equipped suites and a safe, 180-block distance from the scandalous South Beach scene. Read the full Marenas Resort hotel review.

The Liason Capitol Hill
Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.

  • Rooms for this weekend start at an average of $154/night, down from $193
  • You save 20 percent

Why we love it: A stylish lobby, an acclaimed soul food restaurant, an extensive pillow menu, and a hip rooftop pool deck (open summers) makes the Liaison hotel (opened October 2008) one of the best hotels in Capitol Hill — an area that’s convenient to the Amtrak station and most major sites, though far from most of D.C.’s dining and nightlife.
