Bottom Line

The upscale, 79-room Yasmak Sultan Hotel is ideally situated in the Old City, within walking distance of both the waterfront and major tourist attractions. Sophisticated rooms feature a chic white and beige color palette and include minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel has a rooftop restaurant with fantastic city views, as well as a wellness center with a small indoor lap pool and saltwater pool, a small gym, two treatment rooms, a Turkish hammam, and a sauna -- though some of these cost extra fees. There are plenty of four-pearl properties in the area though, so travelers might want to compare rates with The Golden Horn Hotel or Hotel Ipek Palas.

The Yasmak Sultan Hotel is situated in a six-floor beige building with white accents and an elegant curved corner where the entrance resides. The building dates back to 1955, but a renovation of the property was finished in early 2015. Simple, sophisticated interiors feature a subdued color palette and understated decor. The lobby has a beige tiled floor, wood columns, and white walls, while the lounge area is furnished with square and round wooden tables surrounded by beige and white chairs. Guests particularly enjoy the glass-walled rooftop restaurant, which offers views of the river and city. The hotel's location near both the waterfront and tourist attractions in the Old City draws mainly tourists wishing to sightsee.

Rooms

Sophisticated rooms with minibars, coffee/tea facilities, and free Wi-Fi -- but small quarters

Yasmak Sultan's guest rooms are simple and sophisticated, with gray wall-to-wall carpeting, white walls, and beige accents. Patterned tray ceilings, damask drapes, and velvety settees help to create a stylish luxury feel while staying understated. Bathrooms are usually tiled in neutral colors and include a vanity, toilet, and shower stall. Most rooms are small -- not unusual for the touristy city center -- measuring between 200 to 260 square feet. Entry-level single rooms can be even smaller, measuring as little as 160 square feet (Family Rooms are larger, at over 350 square feet). In-set wardrobes and wall-mounted flat-screen TVs make good use of limited space. Rooms have central air-conditioning, minibars, coffee and tea facilities, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have hairdryers and free individual toiletries. The Sultan Suite adds stylish details and extras like wood floors, bathtubs, and sitting areas, while Deluxe Corner Rooms add bay windows.
