Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Hollywood Hotel Walk of Fame

For a chain property, this Holiday Inn's decor isn't as uniform as expected. Maroon walls, blue decorative accents, brown hallway carpet with blue dots, and brown-patterned plush chairs in the lobby provide the expected backdrop. But one floor differs with gray walls, a white abstract pattern of strings of lights, and black-and-white photography of urban subjects such as airports, planes, and the Statue of Liberty. The pool area also has a series of painted murals -- a beach and ocean scene -- and the underground garage features scenes of the Hollywood sign and local celebrities. The hotel attracts vacationing families and couples as well as a smattering of business travelers. It's worth noting that guests have reported technical issues with the elevator.

The Holiday Inn Express is removed from the bustle of Hollywood Boulevard, but still close enough to reach it on foot in about 10 minutes. The Hollywood Bowl (the city's famous concert venue) is a seven-minute walk away. Still, the sights of Los Angeles are most easily seen by car. The Griffith Observatory is just under 20 minutes away by car, while Santa Monica is a 40-minute car ride. A 30-minute drive will take travelers to Rodeo Drive or to L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles. For those without a car, the nearest bus stop is a one-minute walk away and the closest metro station (Hollywood/Highland) takes about 10 minutes to reach on foot. A Starbucks and a Subway are across the street from the hotel, but more dining options can be found on Hollywood Boulevard. The Los Angeles International Airport is a 40-minute drive away. 

This Holiday Inn has Standard Rooms and a variety of suite types, including a two-story loft-style suite. Decor in general is contemporary with black/brown furniture, gray accents in the curtains and couches, dark-brown and tan-striped carpet, and splashes of color in red accent walls and bed runners. But some dated or generic details, like the tan bed skirts and abstract paintings, broadcast the room's chain-hotel status. And while some rooms have views of Downtown L.A., others have views of an alley. Still, amenities are up to date, and all rooms include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, coffeemakers, and iPod docks. Suites also include microwaves, seating areas with couches, and the option of an outdoor patio with round woven chairs. Some suites have been updated with sleek gray-tiled bathrooms, lighted vanity mirrors, and walk-in showers. Other bathrooms are more forgettable with beige tile, small sinks, and shower or shower/tub combos. Complaints have been made about cleanliness and some maintenance issues in the rooms.

The hotel’s most popular feature is its free breakfast, which includes both hot and cold items, though guests have noted that it can be difficult to find a table during peak breakfast times. Other features include an outdoor pool with lounge chairs, and it’s wheelchair accessible. There’s also a fitness center with six cardio machines. Guests can use a business center with two computers and a printer, and there's one room that can be set up as a meeting space. Other features include a coin-operated laundry room and a snack shop. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, while valet parking in an underground garage is available for a fee.
