The prime Hollywood location is the outstanding feature of the Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn, a standard budget hotel with 82 rooms. It has a modern (but small) restaurant and cafe on-site, 24-hour front-desk service, photocopy and fax services, a pool with stylish seating, and tours to family-friendly attractions and theme parks that leave from the hotel (for a fee). Rooms have large flat-screen TVs and natural light, but the furniture is a bit dated. The hotel is on popular and convenient Highland Avenue, but the area's heavy car and foot traffic can make for a noisier night's sleep.
Scene
Budget hotel with a sleek, modern exterior and traditionally furnished interior
The large, tinted windows on the exterior of the Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn stand out against the green California hillside behind the hotel on the popular, and busy, Highland Avenue. Electronic doors lead into a brightly lit, small lobby that includes a few pieces of traditional furniture, a marble front desk, a PC computer and printer, flat-screen TV, and a water cooler with fruit. The outdoor hallways, painted blue and white with vending machines near the stairwells, are plain and budget-hotel standard.
Location
Central Hollywood locale for sightseeing and access to tourist attractions
The hotel is at the epicenter of Hollywood and is convenient for tourists and families who want to be within a seven-minute stroll of the Hollywood Bowl and within a 15 minute walk of the star-lined Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, El Capitan Theatre, and metro subway line. From the Hollywood and Highland subway station, it's 27 minutes to Universal Studios/CityWalk. There is no shortage of trendy bars, clubs, and family-friendly eating places in the area. Two blocks away from the hotel is Shintaro, a Subway sandwich shop, and a Starbucks. The large outdoor mall, Hollywood and Highland, with shops and more dining, is a 15-minute walk away.
Rooms
Standard budget rooms are basically furnished, with microwaves and flat-screen TVs
Rooms at the Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn are spacious and decorated in brown, beige, and gold. Some of the furnishings are dated and in need of repair. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, microwaves, free Wi-Fi, and mini-refrigerators. Suites come with a small sitting area that includes a sofa bed. Guests recommend getting a room away from the main drag to avoid traffic and pedestrian noise. Requesting a nonsmoking room is also recommended to avoid a stale smoke smell.
Features
Hollywood chain hotel with clean pool, rental car service, and tours to theme parks
Although it faces the parking lot, the pool and hot tub are clean with a lot of greenery and charming brown lounge chairs and tables. The hotel also has a convenient car rental service that picks up and drops off guests. Tours also leave from the hotel every day to the Griffith Observatory, Six Flags Magic Mountain, San Diego Zoo, Disneyland, and Knott's Berry Farm.
