Oyster Hotel Review

Camelot by the Sea, Oceana Resorts

Scene

Family-friendly condo resort on the beach

Part of the Oceana Resort family, a chain of hotels and resorts in Myrtle Beach, this mid-range property occupies a prime beachfront setting. Interiors are fairly average in terms of style, but they're clean and contemporary. A sky painted onto the ceiling and fairy tale-esque beach scenes (a nod to the hotel's name) wrapping around a mezzanine area in the lobby are a bit cheesy, but it's a pleasant and inviting space. There are nice outdoor spaces in which to relax as well, including around the palm-fringed pool and on the sunbathing lawn lined with loungers. Clientele here tends to be families on beach vacations in the summer. During the low-season, business and convention travelers are frequent guests at the resort, thanks to the close proximity to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center and affordable off-season rates.

Rooms

Studios and multi-bedroom suites have balconies and full kitchens; decor varies and some could use an update

The hotel offers studios as well as one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, all of which are individually owned, so they differ in decor and style, though most tend to have a subtle beachy vibe. Some feel fresher and more contemporary, while others are tired and in need of updates. All rooms have balconies, some with ocean views. All of the units also have full kitchens equipped with stoves, ovens, microwaves, coffeemakers, fridges, toasters, and dish-/cooking-ware. The units that have been more recently updated feature stainless steel appliances. Other standard amenities include flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Most suites have separate living rooms as well as dining areas. Bathrooms are fairly spacious and equipped with shower/tub combos, plenty of towels, and hairdryers. Toiletries are supplied. Note that some guests have complained of cleanliness and maintenance issues -- though these vary based on unit and management company.
