Bottom Line
Not to be confused with its sister hotel, Night Hotel Times Square -- just two blocks away -- the Night Hotel New York is a trendy upscale hotel half a block from Times Square. Its convenient location is within walking distance of numerous attractions, but it's quiet nonetheless -- and the hotel's "night" theme means windows are hidden behind heavy blackout drapes, which can help make for a good night's sleep. Other features make this hotel a nice boutique pick include the sexy black-and-white decor; the on-site restaurant serving tasty sushi; and the sleek rooms featuring large flat-screen TVs and work desks. The low lighting and lack of windows won't appeal to all, and standard bathrooms are small, but it's still a solid four-pearl pick for the price and location.

Half a block from Times Square, but the short distance makes a big difference as far as noise is concerned
Located on West 45th Street, Night Hotel is just a half block away from the heart of Times Square, but it's not so close that guests can't get a decent night's rest. Once seedy, Times Square was reborn in the mid-'90s as a commercialized tourist haven, lit by 24-hour flashing billboards and theme restaurants like ESPN Zone and Bubba Gump Shrimp. Today, visitors walking the streets are more likely to be accosted by a comedy-club promoter, a rickshaw bicycle operator, or a caricature artist than a mugger. (It also helps that there's a huge police station smack in the center of Times Square.) It's crowded, but there's something unquestionably exhilarating -- and convenient -- about staying in the neon-lit heart of the city. Plus, much of Broadway is closed to traffic, making it even more pedestrian-friendly.
