Bottom Line

Within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, Hotel Valadon Colors is a mid-range boutique property located in the 7th Arrondissement, one of Paris's poshest (and most sedate) neighborhoods. Each of the hotel's 12 rooms has a distinct, contemporary design, and range from Doubles or Twins to a Family cottage and Junior Suite, both of which can sleep up to five (two adults and three children). Room perks include free Wi-Fi, newspapers, and coffeemakers. The Valadon Colors is an annex of the Hotel Cadran -- a one-minute walk away -- where Valadon guests can partake of the breakfast buffet (for an extra fee) and use the business center. Travelers who like this neighborhood might want to also consider the Hotel de Londres Eiffel, which has much more traditional Parisian decor and similar amenities, including in-room minibars.

Scene

Simple, historical exterior and mod, compact interior

The slim, six-story building housing the Hotel Valadon Colors fits in nicely with the other buildings on the block, many of which are more than a century old. Common areas are limited, since the Valdon Colors is an annex of the nearby Cadran Hotel, which opens up its breakfast room and business center to guests of this sister property. The modest lobby has a few black leather chairs, a small reception desk, and a couple of shelves filled with guidebooks. The mirrored walls make the space appear larger, but this space doesn't encourage lounging. The hotel draws mostly couples, but its range of room sizes make it well-suited to families too.

Location

In the 7th Arrondissement, near Eiffel Tower and Rodin Museum

The Hotel Valadon Colors is in the placid 7th Arrondissement, within a 12- to 15-minute walk of the Eiffel Tower. Rue Cler, a picturesque pedestrian street celebrated for its market, is a two-minute walk away. The Rodin Museum, which has more than 6,000 sculptures, is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. The nearest metro stop is a four-minute walk away, and the Louvre museum and Jardin des Tuileries are a 17-minute metro ride. The Musee d'Orsay, which focuses on Impressionist works, is 19 minutes away by metro. For business travelers, the Porte de Versailles expo center is a 15-minute taxi ride or a 30-minute metro trip, and La Defense business district is about 40 minutes by taxi or 20 minutes by metro. Charles de Gaulle Airport is about a 40- to 50-minute drive from the hotel, while Orly Airport is about a 30-minute drive.

Rooms

Modern rooms with coffeemakers, safes, and a few punchy details

Most of the 12 rooms at Hotel Valadon Colors have a distinct, modern design. In some, a mural-size photo of a Paris monument covers a wall. In others, beds are fronted with pinewood trunks, while side tables sport the cheeky silhouette of ostrich legs. But most of the furnishings are subdued, with slate-gray carpets, white bedding, and simple platform beds. Room sizes range from Twins or Doubles to a Family cottage and Junior Suite, but guests shouldn't expect a lot of floor space. For example, Triple Rooms have pull-out sofas, and when the bed is extended, there's barely enough space to walk between the beds. Rooms include free Wi-Fi, safes, newspapers, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are compact but modern and sleek, with vessel sinks and walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads but no bathtubs. Hairdryers and individual toiletries come standard.

Features

Few features, most off-site at nearby sister hotel

Though the Hotel Valadon Colors lacks its own features, guests are encouraged to take advantage of the amenities at the nearby Hotel Cardran, of which the Valadon is an annex. Valadon guests can have breakfast at the Cadran and use its business center. The Valadon offers cribs at no extra charge and will arrange for babysitting. Laundry service is also available, and the hotel will arrange airport transportation for a fee. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
