A Non-Gamer's Guide to Atlantic City (8 of 8)

Sitting on the shores of the Jersey coast, Atlantic City has miles of swimmable beach just off the boardwalk and beyond.
Yes, Atlantic City may be the Vegas of the East, but there is plenty to do in the New Jersey shore town outside of the casinos. Take a look at just of your AC adventure options, from shopping, to swimming, to parking it for a few rounds at the buffet!
Atlantic City boomed in the early 1900s, when large hotels were built along the now iconic boardwalk, and had something of a golden age during Prohibition, when liquor laws were hardly enforced and mob-run bootlegging prevailed. (The city is the inspiration for the acclaimed HBO series Boardwalk Empire.) The lovely stretch of walkway now boats famed taffy shops, carnival rides, clothing and jewelry boutiques, and family-friendly fun. Atlantic City hotels have tons of great pools, whether you prefer indoor or outdoor, exotic or plain and simple. Like Vegas, AC has some pretty great buffets, including the Virginia City Buffet at Bally's, which has a classic all-you-can-eat atmosphere. And if buffets don't appeal to you, dining with the stars might. Also just like Vegas, Atlantic City has its share of celebrated chefs. Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, and Michael Mina have all set up shop in along the Jersey shore, just to name a few. Trendy designer shops abound across the boardwalkd, including those at the Pier Shops at Caesars, where you can find all the greats of the fashion world -- Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, and Betsey Johnson, among others. Also check out the Tropicana, Revel, and the Trump Plaza. Like every good resort destination, Atlantic City has its share of hotel spas and salons. Resorts, Trump Taj Mahal, Borgata, and the Water Club at the Borgata all have notable spas on site. The bright lights of the seaside city attract an active nightlife scene with comedy clubs, live music, karaoke, theaters, and more.
