1

Hotel Academie

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

The mid-range Academie Hotel is centrally located on a quiet street away from loud city noises, but still within walking distance of attractions, restaurants, shops, and public transportation. This historic hotel has vaulted ceilings with original brick in addition to a bright indoor Winter Garden and quaint outdoor courtyard. Rooms are mostly updated in style but sizes vary, and include seating areas, mini-fridges, electric kettles, and flat-screen TVs. An on-site bar/lounge is intimate and there is a good breakfast served in a pretty breakfast room daily.

2

Adornes

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

The Adornes is a 20-room, mid-range, historic hotel in a choice location away from the bustle of the city center, but still within walking distance of restaurants, shops, public transportation, and tourist attractions. Rooms do not have air-conditioning and include only the essentials, but there are charming antique accents such as wood beams that make the space feel cozy and welcoming. Noise may be an issue for front-facing rooms, though there are beautiful views of the Potterierei Canal and other historic buildings from this vantage point. There is free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking; however, the Wi-Fi is only available in public areas and the parking is off-site. This hotel is pet-friendly (daily fee) and offers free rental bikes and an advantage card for discounts on attractions.

3

Hotel Bla Bla

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

Hotel Bla Bla is a modern but no-frills budget hotel housed in an historic Flemish building on a pleasant cobbled street in central Bruges. The location means all the main tourist attractions are within walking distance, as is the main train station. While rooms are small, they're clean and comfortable, and many have views of the surrounding historic streets; though noisy floorboards can be an issue and the mobility-challenged would struggle with the stairs.

4

Hotel Ter Brughe

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

Housed in a medieval warehouse that dates back to the 15th century, the Hotel Ter Brughe is an intimate, sedate hotel overlooking one of Bruges's oldest canals. While the hotel is imbued with a real sense of the past, some areas can feel a little dusty and dated -- especially in the lower category rooms. A pleasant first-floor terrace and atmospheric medieval breakfast room both stand out, though the historic nature of the building means there's no elevator and showers are sit-down only. If its historical quirks and old-fashioned ambience don't deter, rates are reasonable for a stay providing real slice of Bruges history.

5

Huis Koning

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

It may be hard to land a room at the Huis Koning hotel -- as it's a favorite among visitors and only has three rooms -- but it is worth the extra effort. Guests rave about all the little extra touches the thoughtful owners offer including in-room desserts and high-end bathroom toiletries. Located on a quaint street next to a canal, the B&B is in a historic house that feels more like an elegant home than a hotel. A tasty breakfast with homemade items is provided daily in a bright room, and an outdoor terrace has charming views of a canal.

6

Hotel – Restaurant Weinebrugge

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

The upper-middle-range Best Western Premier Weinebrugge offers a peaceful stay in a small countryside village away from the bustle of the city (the hotel has a shuttle -- for a fee -- to the Bruges city center). There isn’t much within walking distance and there is no public transportation near the hotel, but there are many scenic walking trails around to explore the countryside. Guest rooms are modern with subdued palettes, electric kettles, and small flat-screen TVs plus gorgeous tile bathrooms. A rooftop terrace has views of the property and there is a marvelous outdoor garden and terrace area. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and there is a free daily breakfast and free parking.

7

NH Brugge

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

Occupying a 17th-century monastery, the NH Brugge looks quaint from the outside, though dated interiors and modern add-ons detract from the picturesque first impression. Its position is particularly convenient, however, as it's easily accessed by car, train, and especially bus -- and is also just 10 minutes' walk from Bruges' medieval center. Room quality can vary, with Standard Rooms looking tired and higher-tier rooms and suites finished with higher-end, period-inspired furniture. A cozy bar with a fireplace makes for a very pleasant place to unwind with a Belgian beer, and the restaurant caters to both families and business guests. Overall, rates are very competitive, but the hotel lacks the charm of many of the city's historic lodgings.

8

Hotel Jan Brito

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

The 37-room Hotel Jan Brito is an upscale hotel with elegant decor set in a beautifully renovated 16th-century building. Outside, there is a charming garden with gravel paths and an impressive stone fountain. Free breakfast is served in a sophisticated dining room and there’s a small bar on-site in a pretty parlor. The hotel is in a quiet location within walking distance to the center of town, but there’s no parking (unlike at the Hotel Heritage). The rooms are elegant and classic, with minibars and free Wi-Fi.

9

Hotel The Peellaert

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

Renovated in 2010, the 50-room Oud Huis de Peellaert is a classic, upscale hotel with grand features like marble steps and chandeliers. It is in an excellent location for exploring Bruges, near both Market Square and Town Hall. Beautiful antique furnishings give spaces such as the bar and lobby an aristocratic air, and thoughtful room amenities include L’Occitane bath products, in-room electric kettles, and stocked minibars. The hotel has a small fitness center in a cellar as well as a sauna.

10

Cote Canal

Bruges, Flanders, Belgium

The Côté Canal hotel is a luxury bed-and-breakfast awash with historical charm and traditional elegance in the heart of medieval Bruges. Set between a cobbled street and the picturesque Dijver canal, the hotel couldn't be better placed, and the main tourist attractions are just minutes away. Rooms are spacious and elegantly decorated with genuine antique furnishings, while breakfast is particularly good -- especially when taken in the garden overlooking the canal. While rates are certainly on the higher end, they still represent good value for this outstanding, and unique, guesthouse.
